Monica glanced between him and Winifred. "Are you two...?"

Owen explained, "Ms. Spencer and I both happen to have something to attend to, so we came to say our goodbyes."

"We've just met," Owen said with a charming smile. "But Ms. Spencer and I seem to have really hit it off."

A jolt went through Monica. She quickly grabbed Winifred's hand. "Winifred, dear, why don't you stay just a little longer? I can have my driver take you home later."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Brown, I really do have to go," Winifred insisted, her mind made up.

Owen added, "Don't you worry, Mrs. Brown. I'll see to it that Ms. Spencer gets home safely."

He was already offering to take her home. Monica was frantic but couldn't exactly hold Winifred hostage.
