It was a high-end MV Agusta, a beast of a machine with a massive frame and an audacious red paint job that screamed for attention.
It idled with a low growl, like a lion coiled and ready to pounce.
Even though Winifred knew nothing about motorcycles, she could tell from its appearance that it was probably more expensive than a luxury car.
For some reason, the bike made her think of Yvan. He would look incredibly handsome riding something like this.
Owen, of course, was handsome too, but in a more playful, roguish way.
"Get on," Owen called out when he saw her hesitating.
Winifred snapped back to reality and climbed onto the seat behind him.
The beast roared, its engine thundering as it sped down the street, drawing a mix of envious and curious glances from everyone they passed.
Feeling far too conspicuous, Winifred quickly used the bouquet to hide her face.
What she didn't know was that after they left, Maria Harris emerged from a nearby corner.
Looking at the photos on her phone, she smiled triumphantly and sent them all to a certain someone.
…
The coffee shop was only a few hundred yards from the hospital, and the motorcycle ride was over in an instant.
Winifred got off, her hair a mess from the wind, and tried to smooth it down.
The two of them walked into the cafe.
"Order whatever you like," she said, making sure to hand the bouquet back to Owen.
Owen took it with a sigh of resignation and walked to the counter. He turned to the beautiful waitress there and said, "For you, beautiful."
The waitress, stunned at first, broke into a shy, delighted smile when she saw Owen's handsome face. "Thank you," she said, accepting the flowers.
Owen had done his homework. He knew that Winifred was Yvan's high school classmate and ex-girlfriend.
Their relationship had caused quite a stir back at Zion Pinecrest Preparatory School when it came to light.
He couldn't believe that a proud, arrogant guy like Yvan had actually fallen for a Cinderella type.
It was a shame his parents had forced him to transfer schools back then; otherwise, he could have had some fun with the situation.
But it wasn't too late now. According to his investigation, Winifred had an abortion shortly after Yvan went abroad, which was around the same time they broke up.
Afterward, she had taken a six-month leave from school to be treated for depression.
In Owen's eyes, it was a classic story: Yvan, the heartless bastard, got what he wanted from Winifred and then abandoned her. He imagined an innocent young woman, heartbroken and pregnant, being dumped by her boyfriend and forced to get an abortion. It was no wonder she had fallen into a deep depression.
And now, amusingly enough, Yvan was back in the country and trying to get entangled with Winifred all over again.
