How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 157

The words were a bitter pill for Yvan to swallow. He knew it was coming, but hearing it from her lips still felt like a punch to the gut.

He suppressed his pain and jealousy, forcing his voice to remain steady. "Don't fall for him. He and I are bitter rivals. He's only pursuing you because he knows I’m into you. He just wants to get under my skin. I don't want you to be deceived."

Winifred was taken aback for a moment—so that was the story—but she quickly recovered. "I can handle my own affairs. I don't need your concern."

"But I am concerned about you," Yvan insisted. "I'm worried that a simple-hearted fool like you will be tricked by him."

His words only fueled her anger. "Yvan, you don't have to put on this fake act for me. Speaking of liars, you're one yourself, aren't you?"

"What have I lied to you about?" he asked.

A sharp pain shot through Winifred's heart. "You're about to get engaged to someone else, yet you're still coming on to me, acting all devoted. Yvan, you're the biggest liar of them all."

"Who am I getting engaged to?" Yvan looked genuinely confused. "This is news to me."

"Teresa. Aren't your two families planning another marriage alliance?" Winifred scoffed. "It's a perfect match. What's there to be unhappy about? Why are you still bothering me?"

Her tone was thick with a jealousy that even she didn't recognize.

"Who told you that?" Yvan asked. "The Holmes family did propose it, but I turned them down."

The anger on Winifred's face froze.

"You're… you're not lying?"

"Why would I lie to you?" Yvan said. "How could I possibly get engaged to someone else? You're the only one in my heart. You know that better than anyone."

Winifred's face stiffened with discomfort. "I don't care whether you're engaged to someone else or not."

"If you don't care, why did you bring it up?"

"You were the one who brought up Owen first."

At the mention of Owen, Yvan's heart clenched again. "Winifred, stay away from Owen. If you promise me you won't see him anymore, I'll have Zebulon approve your resignation."

Winifred frowned. "Why should I listen to you? If you don't let Mr. Johnson approve my resignation, I'll sue the hospital. We'll see who's more afraid."

He had to follow her.

The door to the CEO's office swung open, and all eyes in the company turned toward it.

They saw Winifred marching out furiously, followed closely by their own Mr. Brown, who was limping after her.

Even more shocking was that Yvan's face was dripping wet, and a large patch on his shirt was soaked, as if someone had thrown water on him.

What was going on? Did they have a fight? Had Ms. Spencer thrown water on Mr. Brown?

Gossipy expressions flickered across the employees' faces.

This was juicy. Who knew that the usually aloof Mr. Brown could be so pathetic in front of his girlfriend?

Because of his bad leg, Yvan couldn't catch up. By the time he got out, Winifred had already taken the elevator down. All he could do was wait anxiously for the next one.

Winifred rushed out of the elevator and hurried toward the exit, crashing right into someone.
