She quickly mumbled an apology and tried to walk away, but the person stopped her. "Hey, Dr. Spencer, is that you?"
Winifred looked up and saw it was Owen.
"What are you doing here?" Owen asked curiously.
"I was here to see someone," Winifred said vaguely. "I have to go, I'm in a bit of a hurry."
Without waiting for his reply, she rushed off. A taxi pulled up just then, and she quickly got in and left.
Yvan finally made it downstairs, only to see Winifred's taxi pulling away. He could only watch helplessly as she disappeared.
"Well, well, if it isn't Yvan."
A familiar voice rang out. Yvan turned, and as expected, it was Owen.
"What's wrong? Had a fight with Winifred?" Owen said, a gloating expression on his face as he took in Yvan's disheveled appearance. "And what happened to your leg? Don't tell me Winifred did that."
He had noticed Winifred's furious expression just moments before.
Yvan had been wanting to have a word with Owen, and seeing him now, all the anger that had been building up for days finally erupted.
His face tensed. Without a word, he walked up to Owen and threw a punch.
Owen yelped and dodged the blow. "Yvan, are you crazy?" he yelled.
Over the past few years, they had competed and traded barbs, never giving each other an inch, but they had never come to blows.
They weren't hot-headed teenagers anymore, fighting at the drop of a hat.
For him, the heir to Apex Systems, getting into a public brawl was unthinkable.
Yvan was the same. No matter how much Owen provoked him, he had never gotten physical.
"What's wrong with me?" Yvan shot back. "I'm way better than you. Your relationships last shorter than a fashion season. You're nothing but a scumbag."
"I admit I'm a player, but I'm not as big of a scumbag as you," Owen said with a cocky grin. "At least I've never gotten a girl pregnant and then just walked away. Even I give them some compensation."
"What are you talking about?" Yvan's brows knitted together.
Owen chuckled. "What do you mean, you don't understand? You know what you did. Yvan, I just can't stand your sanctimonious act. You pretend to be so high and mighty, but the things you've done are disgraceful."
Yvan grabbed him by the collar. "Make yourself clear! What did I do?"
"Holy crap! Don't tell me you didn't know Winifred lost the baby?" Owen looked shocked.
Yvan froze. "What did you say? Winifred lost a baby?"
"Seriously, you really don't know." Owen said. "Does that mean you also don't know she had depression?"
