How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 222

But Fitch absolutely could not be seen by her.

Ever since Winifred had claimed she liked Fitch, whether it was true or not, Yvan had developed an inexplicable dislike for the man.

After finding a hotel and dropping off her luggage, Winifred took a cab straight to Shepherd's Rest.

Her heart pounded with anxiety the entire way. The closer she got to the village, the more unnerved she felt.

She got out of the car at the village entrance.

More than a decade had passed, and Shepherd's Rest had changed a lot, but she could still recognize its original layout.

Following her memory, Winifred found the house where Fiona and her family lived.

But she didn't go in right away. Instead, she stood at a distance, staring blankly.

Her father was in there. All she had to do was walk inside to see him.

She wondered what he looked like now. Did he have gray hair? When he saw his daughter, would he feel even a flicker of affection?

Winifred took a few deep breaths and was about to walk over when someone called out to her.

"Hey, you're... Winifred, aren't you?"

Winifred turned to see a next-door neighbor. "You're... Carol?"

"That's me. It's nice that you still remember me," Carol said with a smile, looking Winifred up and down. "My, how you've grown! I haven't seen you in over a decade, and you've blossomed into a beautiful young woman. So much prettier than before."

Winifred smiled shyly. "You're still so young, Carol. You haven't changed a bit."

Oakwood City's urban area was expanding rapidly, and Shepherd's Rest was right on the edge of the county, so being acquired for development was not surprising.

"I have no idea. They never mentioned anything about it to me." Winifred clenched her hand.

They had only talked to her about selling the house, not a word about the redevelopment payout.

"Your dad suddenly comes back and tells you to come back too... it's probably about this," Carol said, glancing around before pulling Winifred into her house and lowering her voice. "Winifred, you need to look out for yourself. I know your parents are divorced and you live with your mom, but you're still a Collins. I heard your dad never even paid child support. You have to fight for your share of this money."

Winifred gave a bitter smile but said nothing.

Carol continued in a hushed tone, "To be honest, your dad's family really owes you. He ignored you for decades. And your grandmother, bless her heart, came all the way to your paternal grandmother's house to argue about your child support. Your grandma Fiona and your uncle got into a huge fight with her. An old woman can't take that kind of stress. The very next day, I heard your grandma had passed away. I think they probably stressed her to death."

"What did you say, Carol?" Winifred felt a jolt run through her. "Are you saying my grandmother's death had something to do with them?"
