How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 227

After leaving the Collins' house, Winifred didn't go back to her hotel right away. Instead, she went to her grandmother's grave.

Kneeling before the headstone, she was overwhelmed with emotion.

For seven years, she had carried the guilt of her grandmother's death. She had blamed herself for killing her, and she had blamed Yvan.

But now, discovering that someone else was responsible, Winifred felt the cruel irony of fate. She hugged the cool stone and wept. "Grandma, it turns out you didn't die because of me. That weight I've been carrying can finally be lifted. But I was still a terrible granddaughter. It took me seven years to find out the real reason you died. Don't worry, Wini will get justice for you. I won't let them get away with this."

Not far away, two men watched the scene unfold.

One of them said, "Ms. Spencer seems really upset. Should we tell Mr. Woods?"

The other hesitated, then said, "We probably should. I hear this Ms. Spencer is Mr. Brown's sweetheart. If something happens to her, we'll definitely get an earful."

"Then take a picture and send it to Mr. Woods, quick." The man took out his phone, snapped a photo, and sent it to Fitch.

Moments later, Fitch forwarded the photo to Yvan with a message: "Ms. Spencer went to the Collins' house, and now she's at her grandmother's grave, crying. Not sure what happened."

Yvan zoomed in on the photo.

It was taken from a distance and wasn't perfectly clear, but it captured Winifred's tear-streaked, grief-stricken face perfectly.

Yvan's heart clenched. He thought the Collins had bullied her and, forgetting everything else, immediately called her.

Winifred had cried her heart out and was starting to calm down when she saw Yvan's name on her screen and answered.

Before she could say a word, Yvan's anxious voice came through. "Winifred, why are you crying? Don't cry. Tell me what's wrong, and I'll fix it."

Winifred was taken aback. "How did you know I was crying?"

Yvan froze, suddenly at a loss for words.

"Yvan, and you say you didn't put a tracker on me?" Winifred frowned.

Yvan was confused. "Winifred, don't cry. Just talk to me. I'm listening."

Through her tears, Winifred haltingly explained the real cause of her grandmother's death.

"Yvan, do you blame me?" she asked, wiping her eyes.

Would he blame her for placing such a heavy burden on his shoulders, for making him feel guilty and miserable for so long?

"I don't blame you," Yvan said softly. "Knowing that Grandma didn't pass away because of us lifts some of the guilt from my heart. How could I ever blame you?"

Winifred sobbed quietly.

Yvan wished he could be there to hold her and comfort her, but they were miles apart.

"Why are you still crying?" he asked, his voice full of concern.
