Winifred couldn't help but laugh, though without humor. “Ms. Holmes, if you’re so sure we won’t last, why waste five million dollars? Why don’t you just wait on the sidelines for us to break up?”
Teresa snorted, “I can’t wait that long. Besides, what if you get pregnant and try to use the baby to blackmail Yvan? I have no intention of raising someone else’s child.”
Winifred was speechless.
This Teresa wasn't just clueless, she was ridiculously confident. What made her so sure she'd marry Yvan?
But she didn't have time to argue with her right now; she had patients to see.
Just then, the landline rang. Winifred picked it up immediately. “Could you send security over? Someone is disrupting my work here.”
Teresa was shocked and furious. “Winifred, what are you doing? Who says I’m not here for an appointment? I’m here for a cleaning!”
Winifred called in the next patient and said coldly, “Ms. Holmes, my time is valuable, and there are other patients waiting. I’ve given you several chances.”
“How dare you refuse to see me? I’ll file a complaint!” Teresa shot to her feet. “I waited in line for an hour, and you’re not going to see me?”
Just then, a security guard walked in. “Dr. Spencer, what’s going on?”
Winifred pointed at Teresa. “This patient signed in to see me but refuses treatment. She's only interested in asking personal questions, disrupting the clinic’s order, and wasting my time. Please escort her out.”
The guard looked at Teresa. “Miss, please leave.”
Teresa fumed, “I’m not leaving! Who said I’m not here for an appointment? I’m here for a teeth cleaning. If you refuse, I’ll report you to the medical board.”
The patient who had just come in couldn't stand it anymore. He'd been waiting by the door and had heard their entire conversation.
“Hey, lady, you can’t just lie like that. I was right outside the door and heard everything. Dr. Spencer asked you to open your mouth, but you wouldn’t. You just kept pestering her with personal questions. She warned you two or three times.”
“Yeah, if you’re not here for a check-up, then leave. We've all been waiting for over an hour. Don't waste our time.”
“Seriously, what’s wrong with her?”
“Just get her out of here. We have appointments.”
Winifred slid into the passenger seat. “Let’s go.”
Yvan noticed her frustrated expression and took her hand. “What’s wrong? You don’t look very happy.”
Winifred pulled her hand away. “What do you think? Yvan, I’m starting to think you’re a real magnet for trouble. Every time I’m with you, some woman comes after me.”
“Who came after you?” Yvan asked, surprised.
“Who else? Teresa. She offered me five million dollars to break up with you.”
“Teresa?” Yvan frowned.
“Yes. If you hadn't led her on, why would she have gotten her hopes up?” Winifred huffed.
“Led her on? When did I ever lead her on?” Yvan was bewildered. “Winifred, I have absolutely no interest in her. It’s all in her head.”
