Besides, Marcus really wasn't her boyfriend, so it wasn't technically a lie.
"It wasn't?" Lily seemed surprised.
"No, I don't have a boyfriend yet," Winifred said, changing the subject. "It's eight o'clock, we should get going before the department head comes by."
Molly looked at Lily. "Lily, looks like you got the wrong idea for once. Hehe."
Really? Had she been mistaken?
After finally dealing with her colleagues, Winifred breathed a secret sigh of relief, went into her exam room, put on her white coat, cap, and mask, and pressed the button to call the next patient.
There were a lot of patients today, including many walk-ins, and Winifred was swamped.
Her phone rang several times, but she was too busy to answer.
During a brief lull, she glanced at her phone and saw they were all missed calls from Yvan.
She found a moment to call him back. "What?"
"Nothing, I just miss you."
Winifred was exasperated. "Yvan, if it's nothing important, don't interrupt me. I'm really busy. Okay, gotta go."
They'd only been apart for a few hours. Did he really miss her that much? He must be bored.
He should try being a workhorse for a day.
She sat back down and called the next patient.
"Teresa, please proceed to exam room 203."
When Winifred saw the name Teresa, she thought it must be a coincidence.
But when the patient walked in, she saw it really was her.
Winifred's frown deepened. "Ms. Holmes, if you continue to ask questions unrelated to your treatment, I will have to assume you are intentionally disrupting my clinic, and I will have to call security."
Teresa was unfazed. She suddenly pulled a check from her purse. "Name your price. How much will it take for you to leave Yvan?"
Winifred glanced at the blank check. To be honest, she'd never even seen a checkbook up close before.
"Ms. Holmes, if you continue, I am calling security," Winifred said, placing her hand on the landline phone.
"Two million," Teresa said.
Winifred picked up the receiver and started dialing.
Teresa gritted her teeth. "Five million."
Seeing that Winifred was unmoved and hearing a voice on the other end of the line, Teresa slammed the phone down. "Winifred, you're turning down five million dollars? Don't you realize you and Yvan have no future? He's never going to marry you. He's just playing with you. Wouldn't it be better to take the five million and live a life of luxury?"
