“Yvan, where did you go?” Teresa walked over and sat down beside him. “I didn’t see you just now.”
Yvan didn’t answer, his gaze drifting toward Winifred from time to time.
Teresa didn’t notice, eagerly handing him a slice of cake. “Yvan, have some cake.”
Yvan remained noncommittal.
“Yvan, my friend gave me two tickets to a concert. I remember the singer is your favorite. Do you want to go with me?” Teresa asked, tugging at his arm.
Yvan frowned and pulled his arm away. “I’m busy.”
Teresa’s eyes filled with disappointment, but she quickly regrouped.
“Yvan, would you like something to drink? I can get it for you.”
She had been smitten with him ever since she’d met him by chance at her sister-in-law’s house some time ago.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t found many opportunities to see him since.
Now that she finally had a chance, she wasn’t about to let it slip away.
Winifred kept her head down, focusing on her cake and ignoring everything happening across from her. All she wanted was to finish quickly and leave.
She had long known that Yvan attracted a crowd of admirers, so this was nothing new.
Monica discreetly tugged on Yetta Brown’s sleeve and gave her a look.
Yetta understood and walked over to Teresa.
“Teresa, dear, come with me for a moment. I have a little something for you.”
Teresa was reluctant to leave; she wanted more time to talk to Yvan. But with Yetta phrasing it that way, she couldn’t refuse.
And just like that, Yetta Brown whisked Teresa away.
With the seat next to Murphy now empty, Yvan moved over and sat down.
Murphy was a chatterbox. Seeing Yvan sit beside him, he immediately said, “Winifred, let me introduce you. This is my uncle. Uncle, this is my new friend, Winifred.”
Winifred had no choice but to look up and give Yvan an awkward nod. “Hello.”
Yvan didn’t speak, just looked at her.
