How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 94

Winifred asked, “And what if I say no?”

“…If you say no, does that mean you’ll never see Murphy again?” Yvan countered. “He seems to really like you.”

“Murphy is Murphy, and you are you.”

“But you’ll run into me often. Don’t you think they’ll find it strange if we see each other and don’t say a word?”

Winifred thought he was just being difficult. What was so strange about not talking? Besides, it wasn’t like she spent every day with Murphy.

Whatever. She couldn’t be bothered to argue with him. After the new year, she was resigning and moving to Portside anyway. They would be thousands of miles apart. What did it matter if they were friends or not?

With that in mind, Winifred said, “Fine, whatever you want.”

A smile touched Yvan’s lips. He unlocked the doors. “You can get out now.”

Winifred got out of the car, and Yvan followed.

Just as she was about to say goodbye, Yvan said, “As a friend who just drove you home, aren’t you going to invite me up for a cup of tea?”

Winifred felt like she had been tricked.

Yvan stuck his hands in his pockets, his expression relaxed. “Don’t worry. I said we’d be normal friends. I won’t try anything.”

“All right, then,” Winifred finally relented.

Once inside, Winifred set down her bag. “Make yourself comfortable. What would you like to drink? Tea or juice?”

“Do you have any beer?” Yvan asked.

Winifred’s hand paused on the refrigerator door as she remembered what Todd had told her about him drinking until he had stomach bleeding.

“No,” she said. “I only have tea and juice.”

Yvan said, “Then I’ll have a cup of tea.”

Winifred took some tea leaves from the cabinet. The kettle was empty, so she went to the kitchen to fill it with water.

While waiting for the water to boil, she saw apples, bananas, and pears in the fridge. She washed them and decided to make a fruit platter.

If only that were true, how wonderful it would be.

With the water boiled, Winifred prepared the tea in the kitchen and brought it out with the fruit platter.

She poured him a cup. “This is black tea. It won’t upset your stomach. Try it.”

Yvan said, “I prefer green tea.”

Winifred pressed her lips together. “You’ve already had stomach bleeding, and you still want to drink green tea.”

The moment she said it, she regretted it. Why did she say that? It made her sound like she was paying close attention to him.

Yvan’s hand, holding the teacup, paused. “How did you know about that?”

“…Todd called me,” Winifred said. “He told me you drank so much your stomach started bleeding.”

Yvan put down his cup. “…What else did he say?”

Winifred lowered her gaze. “Nothing much. He mostly called to apologize for what happened seven years ago.”
