Chapter 142 The Truth Behind Her Past
Kael’s POV:
I didn’t beat around the bush. I asked straight out, “I can’t find anything about Lira’s life before she was 14. Was it hidden on purpose?”
That’s been bugging me this whole time. I used every resource I have as Lycan King, but I found nothing. It really confused me.
Enid placed a chess piece on the board, her voice calm. “Does it matter?”
I didn’t hesitate. “It matters. Everything about Lira matters to me.”
“Why hold onto the past?” Enid’s voice sounded a little heavy. “What can you fix by knowing those old things?”
I caught the flicker of pain in her eyes, but I kept pushing. “I really want to know everything about her. Please tell me.”
She held the chess piece in her hand, not making a move for a long time. After a while, she spoke, her voice heavy. “I found Lira a few years ago, on the edge of this valley. She was covered in wounds, and she was unconscious for a long time before waking up.
“Do you know why she took my last name? When I asked her, she said her name was Lira-no last name, no parents. She didn’t say anything else after that.
“I didn’t ask again. She stayed here with me and learned medicine. She seems cheerful, but deep down, she’s closed off. Hardly anyone can really get close to her.
“That’s why I sent her to Silverwhip Pack to study. I just wanted her to make a few real friends. As for her past-don’t ask anymore. She’ll tell you when she’s ready.”
With that, she put down the chess piece, stood up, and patted my shoulder. “Remember this–if she ever agrees to bond with you, never betray her. Never make her hurt. If you do, I won’t let you off, even if you’re the Lycan King.”
Then she walked slowly back to her room.
After hearing all that, my heart ached for Lira,
I knew something bad must have happened to her before, but I never imagined it was like this.
Enid was definitely hiding more, but even from those few words, I could picture how much suffering Lara went through back then.
There was so much I didn’t know.
No wonder she always faced danger alone, never leaning on anyone.
No wonder she wasn’t like other Omegas-she wasn’t content to just settle. Her eyes were always full of ambition, always craving to be stronger.
