Chapter 16 The Charity Auction Invitation
Lira’s POV:
Finished
I stared blankly at Kael’s handsome face. In my dazed state, I felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity with him.
But that was impossible. We’d only met once.
Yet, his scent made me feel incredibly safe. Even my wolf, Victoria, seemed a little drawn to it.
“Sleepyhead?” His deep voice sounded by my ear, soft with a hint of tenderness.
That snapped me out of it.
My fingers tightened. I looked into his playful eyes and blurted out, “Kael… have we met before?”
He raised an eyebrow, his tone teasing. “Before? You mean in the forest when you saved me? Or… before that?”
His teasing brought me fully awake. I shook my head quickly, pushing away the strange thought.
A smile flickered in Kael’s eyes. He reached out and gently smoothed my messy hair with his fingertips. Then he pinched my cheek–the motion felt natural, as if he’d done it a thousand times. “Go wash up. Dinner’s ready.”
I mumbled an “okay,” stood up, and started to leave. Then I stopped. I turned and glared at him. “Wait. Kael, why did I sleep so deeply?
“With my guard up, I shouldn’t have fallen asleep like that.”
Victoria’s senses were sharp. Even tired, I shouldn’t have been so vulnerable.
Kael looked at me deeply. He didn’t explain. Instead, he just took my hand and led me toward the bark
a was warm. His deep voice was pleasant. “Little one, don’t be so on edge.
aybe you’ve just been too tired lately. Your mind finally relaxed. You were already fast asleep on the sofa when I came down.”
His tone was calm. For some reason, it made me let go of some of my suspicion.
Victoria had told me he was immensely powerful. If he wanted to hurt me, he wouldn’t have bothered with all this.
I glanced at him, didn’t ask more, and went into the bathroom to wash my face.
In the mirror, I still looked a little pale–probably from the nightmare.
After freshening up, we went to the dining table.

Finisher
I took a seat by the window. My gaze drifted to the sea outside. The sound of the waves helped calm me.
The meal was quiet. Kael didn’t tease me. He just asked a few casual questions about how I was settling int the Silverwhip Pack.
I answered vaguely, but my mind was racing. If he didn’t know my mother, why did she tell me to find him?
After dinner, Kael had the driver take me back.
He didn’t try to make me stay and didn’t ask for anything. It was as if grabbing me earlier really was just to buy me a meal.
On the drive back to my apartment, I still couldn’t figure him out.
He took me but meant no harm. He fed me but didn’t talk business. Was it really just to “repay a favor“?
When I got home and opened my door, my phone rang.
The screen showed “Steve Garcia.” I froze for a second, not placing the name.
Then an image flashed in my mind–a stone–gambling den. Right. He was the son of the Silverwhip Pack’s Alpha. Also the general manager of Cloud Group.
I’d met him by chance at the border of the Hidmoon Pack territory. Thinking I’d be in the Silverwhip Pack a while, I’d exchanged contacts. More connections couldn’t hurt.
I answered. A clear, pleasant male voice came through. “Lira, are you in the Silverwhip Pack?”
“Yeah. How did you know?”
I was surprised. Besides Serena, I hadn’t told anyone I was coming.
A low laugh came from the other end, mixed with amusement. “You know those photos of you from our pack? They’ve gone viral online.”
Oh Right
“That explains it. I just got here a few days ago,” I said with a sigh.
Hearing my confirmation, Steve’s tone brightened. “Join me tonight, then. There’s a charity auction at the Grand Vista Hotel. Come with me.
