Chapter 15 Questions and Nightmares
Lira’s POV:
I froze. Then I shot up from the sofa. “You’re Kael Thorne?!”
Finished
The man I’d been searching for… was standing right in front of me? And he was the same man I’d patched up in the forest?
Kael watched my shocked face. A smile flickered in his eyes.
He gave a slight nod but didn’t speak. He just looked at me. His gaze held a mix of feelings I couldn’t read. There was even a hint of… indulgence? Tenderness?
His intense stare made me uncomfortable. I was about to look away.
Then, he reached out and gently pinched my cheek.
The warm touch made my breath catch. My heart did a funny little jump.
Victoria grew even more restless inside me.
I snapped back to myself. I watched his hand pull back and frowned, unhappy. “Kael, could you not touch me without asking?”
He looked at me, the smile in his eyes deepening. He teased me on purpose. “Relax. I’m not so low as to have those kinds of thoughts about a minor.”
I fired back immediately. “If you know I’m a minor, why flirt? Aren’t you afraid of getting in trouble? Both with people’s opinions and the law?”
“Alright, my mistake. Sorry,” he said with a soft laugh. He reached out and ruffled my hair. “I’ll make it up to you. A big meal today.”
With that, he stood up and started walking toward the stairs.
“Wait!” I called him back quickly.
Kael turned. His eyes were playful. “What? Don’t want me to leave?”
I looked up at his smiling eyes, pushing down the fluttering in my chest. I remembered my mother’s last words.
I asked, my tone serious, “Do you know Vivian Sander?”
“Vivian Sander?” He repeated the name slowly, his brow furrowing slightly. He was thinking.
I waited, nervous.
After a moment, he shook his head. “I don’t know her. Who is she?”
My heart sank. My frown deepened.

Finisher
He didn’t know my mother?
Then why did she tell me to find him?
Maybe his parents knew my mom?
“Do your parents know her?” I asked again.
Kael raised an eyebrow. A playful glint returned to his eyes. “Want to come home with me to meet my parents? Eager to join the family?”
“Oh,” he drawled, meaningfully. “So you’ve already picked me as your mate? Is that why you’re asking about my family?”
“I have not!” My cheeks grew warm. I retorted quickly, pretending to be angry with a huff. “Don’t flatter yourself! I’m asking about something important!”
“Alright, important business,” he said, his tone turning serious. “Vivian Sander? I’ll ask my father about it later.”
I huffed again, ignoring his teasing. I turned to look out the window at the sea. The sound of waves hitting the rocks drifted in. My mood slowly calmed.
At least I’d found Kael. The rest, I could figure out later.
Kael smiled, a fond look on his face. He didn’t bother me further. He turned and continued upstairs.
Somehow, the scent in this place made me feel incredibly at ease.
Probably because I’d been running non–stop since leaving the Hidmoon Pack. No real rest. I was exhausted. Without meaning to, I let my guard down.
I leaned back into the sofa. Slowly, without realizing it, I closed my eyes…
I didn’t sleep well. Soon, I fell into a nightmare.
