Chapter 166 Desperation at Dawn
Lira Voss’s POV:
Scarlett lost her mind in a rage, baring her sharp fangs and snarling at me.
Leroy Trotter’s brow knit together in clear irritation, and he barked a command to silence her. “Enough! You’re a Gamma leader, and you’re picking a fight with a low-rank Omega? Have some dignity.”
He turned to a man in black nearby. “Take Miss Krom to her tent to rest.”
I gave him a cheeky grin. “I appreciate the common sense, Mr. Trotter. I’m off to bed. Bye-bye.”
I waved a patronizing hand at Scarlett as I walked away.
I loved watching her fume when she couldn’t touch me. If I weren’t hiding my dual-wolf spirits, I would have put her in her place ages ago for that attitude…
The moment I stepped inside the tent, my nerves went taut.
That old man who stayed buried under his hat gave me a skin-crawling sensation.
He radiated a cold, predatory energy, and more strangely, he smelled faintly of old blood. Even Lily was instinctively whimpering in fear inside me.
I decided I had to investigate him tonight…
After dinner, the camp slowly fell into a heavy, mountain silence. Being deep in the wilderness only made the quiet more absolute, but with my heightened senses, every snap of a twig was like a gunshot.
I lay on the air mattress, eyes closed, using my dual-wolf spirits to scout every corner of the camp.
By the time the moon was high, only a few sentries remained awake outside; the rest were dead to the world.
I pulled a canister of knockout gas from my lab in the dimension and quietly pumped it through a gap in the tent, neutralizing the guards.
Once I was sure no eyes were on me, I moved quickly, changing into a black tactical suit and tucking my hair under a baseball cap.
I slipped out of the tent with ghost-like steps and darted toward the cave.
Leroy hadn’t posted guards since they hadn’t hit the main vein yet.
I walked into the darkness with zero trouble, my wolf-eyes turning the pitch-black cave into a clear landscape of scattered rocks.
When I reached the deepest point, I knelt down, took a breath, and pressed my palms against the cold floor, focusing my intent on pulling the entire vein into my dimension.
But the moment I made contact, my hands felt like they were fused to the ground by a massive magnetic

force.
The vein was too massive; it was draining my energy at a terrifying rate. Even Lily and Victoria were thrashing inside me, screaming at the strain.
I fought to hold on, but time slipped away until the light outside began to turn gray with dawn. My strength was failing, yet my hands wouldn’t budge.
e camp was waking up, and I could feel the vibrations of movement outside. What now?
y mental and physical energy was almost tapped out. If I didn’t break free soon, I was dead, but I was still uck.
For the first time, I felt a surge of genuine panic.
Just then, the sound of rhythmic footsteps echoed from the cave entrance, getting closer and closer.
“Have you seen that Omega girl who was with us yesterday?” Leroy’s voice rang out.
A guard answered immediately, “No, Alpha. We haven’t seen anyone in this area since dawn.”
