Chapter 170 A Silent Goodbye
Lira Voss’s POV:
I could see right through the old man’s game.
For him, this was a golden opportunity. If the rest of the family died, the Trotter name and the Darknight Pack would fall right into his lap. He’d gladly trade the family group for that.
Leroy clearly saw through his selfish, heartless mask too. He turned and roared at Silas, his wolf-eyes blazing. “Enough! Do you really want the entire family to die for your greed? Those are your relatives too!
“I want power and the Alpha seat as much as anyone, but I won’t build my throne on the corpses of my own blood.”
I hadn’t expected Leroy Trotter to have a shred of humanity left in him. My opinion of him shifted just a little.
It explained why his men hadn’t actually hurt Sally or the others.
He might be the Alpha of the notorious Darknight Pack, but he wasn’t the cold-blooded monster the rumors suggested. He had principles. It was Silas Trotter who was the real snake.
Silas realized he’d lost. He shot me one last venomous look before turning and storming out of the tent.
I just shrugged and gave his back a mocking grin.
Leroy led me back to the cave one last time.
By now, the first glints of gemstones were visible in the rock face.
I pointed to a specific spot. “See that? The fire is already showing. You’ll have a clean hit by tonight.”
Leroy looked at the stones with a mix of relief and surprise. He turned to me. “Regardless of how we started, thank you. I’m a man of my word. I’ll make sure you’re compensated for the find. Just name your price.”
I have to hand it to him; Leroy was a smooth operator. He’d kidnapped me, but now he was trying to wash away his crimes with a ‘thank you’ and a check.
The man was a fox through and through.
I raised an eyebrow, completely unimpressed. “Don’t bother. Just don’t mess with my friends again, and don’t ever try to snatch me. I don’t respond well to threats.”
Truth was, if he hadn’t brought me here, I never would have found the truly valuable vein.
I’d call it even. As for his ‘reward,’ he could keep it. He was going to need every cent once he realized that vein was full of low-grade junk.
Leroy gave me a slight, respectful nod. “Understood. Perhaps one day we can sit down and have a drink under better circumstances.”

“Maybe.” I said with a faint smile.
Ever since I started my Alpha training under Elder Enid at Hidmoon. I’d learned one core lesson: there are no permanent friends or enemies in this world.
My time with Leroy wasn’t pleasant, but who knew? In a few years, he might be a useful ally.
As the Alpha of the Darknight Pack, his resources were too valuable to completely discard.
