Chapter 18 Uninvited Guests
Lira’s POV:
I looked up. Two women were walking over side by side.

The one in front wore a white dress. She wasn’t stunningly beautiful, but her eyes held a quiet sense of superiority.
Even gentle Lily felt a flicker of irritation when she caught her scent.
The woman behind her wore a light blue dress. She had a delicate, fragile air that made you want to protect her. But her scent was strong. A high–ranking werewolf. She wasn’t weak at all.
Steve stood up. His tone was flat. “Ms. Malcom. Ms. Delarosa.”
The woman in white stamped her foot lightly. Her voice was sugary sweet. “Steve, I’ve told you, call me Christine. You’re being too formal. It feels distant.”
Her overly sweet tone grated on my ears. I couldn’t help a soft cough.
Steve turned quickly. He reached out and patted my back gently. “Are you okay? Feeling unwell?”
Only then did Christine Malcom’s attention shift from Steve to me. Her wolf–bright eyes stared at me, unblinking.
“Steve, who is this?” Her face clouded over instantly. Her tone was sharp with curiosity.
Once he was sure I was fine, Steve turned back to her. His voice turned cold, distant. “That’s none of your concern, Ms. Malcom.”
His sudden chill made Christine’s face tighten.
Seeing this, the woman behind her, Leslie Delarosa, stepped forward smoothly. Her voice was gentle, perfectly polite. “Mr. Garcia, please don’t misunderstand. Christine was just curious. The young lady is new to our circle.
“After all, it’s always good to have more friends.”
I raised an eyebrow at her. I had to admit, this woman was clever.
With one sentence, she saved Christine’s face and made herself look gracious.
Christine caught on. Her eyes grew slightly red. She echoed in a wounded tone. “Yes, Steve. I really didn’t mean anything by it. We all live in the Silverwhip Pack. Knowing more people means we can help each
other.”
I sneered inside.
I saw right through them.
They’d probably heard Steve brought a girl and came to check me out.

As the Alpha’s son, Steve was a prime mate target.
Now he’d brought me. Of course they saw me as a threat.
Especially since I looked like a nobody. A werewolf with no background.
Steve said nothing more, his face still cold.
Seeing this, Christine walked to a nearby table. She picked up two glasses of red wine. She forced a proper smile and offered one to me. “I’m Christine. And you are?”
Watching this tired performance, I felt a spark of amusement. I took the glass. My tone was flat. “Lira
Krom.”
“Krom?” Christine frowned, pretending to think. “I don’t believe I’ve heard that surname among the noble families.
“Forgive my ignorance. Which pack’s high house do you belong to, Ms. Krom?”
Her words were polite, but her eyes were full of clear contempt.
I looked right at her. My voice was calm, matter–of–fact. “I have no parents. I’m an orphan.”
The words hung in the air. Everyone nearby went still.
Even Steve seemed surprised. A flicker of shock crossed his face, followed by a deeper, softer look of sympathy.
Christine was stunned speechless.
After a moment, she squeezed out an awkward smile. “Oh. I’m… sorry. I didn’t know, Ms. Krom.
“But it’s alright. If you need any help in the Silverwhip Pack, you can always come to me.”
The arrogance and disdain in her tone were barely concealed now.
Leslie chimed in, her voice dripping with the same superiority. “Yes, Ms. Krom. Any trouble, just find us.
“Don’t worry. We were raised properly. We don’t look down on lower–rank werewolves without
connections.”
A mocking smile touched my lips. I swirled the wine in my glass slowly and looked at them. “No need.
“As they say, different paths don’t cross. You’re high–society ladies. I’m just an orphan. We don’t move in the same circles. No need to force a friendship.”
