Howl of Destiny: Alpha Lira’s Legend
Chapter 60 Party Spotlight and Fake Tears
Lira’s POV:
Finished
Chester turned around, saw me, and broke into a huge grin right away. “Lira! You finally showed up!
“You’re the star of tonight’s party. Without you, this whole shindig would be useless.” He pulled me into a warm hug.
The guests who’d looked down on me earlier all froze, their jaws hitting the floor like they couldn’t wrap their heads around it.
Treva smiled too, taking my hand and piping up. “That’s right, dear. You’re our family’s good luck charm.”
I smiled back at them. “You’re too nice. I just did what I had to.
“Really, it’s all Virginia. She’s tough–she got through it on her own. Plus, all the support from you guys, her family, helped her get better so quickly.”
Chester looked at me kindly. “Quit being so modest.”
Then he turned to the other guests. “Let me introduce you all. This is Lira Krom–the genius healer who saved my Virginia.
“Because of her, Virginia’s healthy again. So I hope you’ll all be nice to her, for my sake.
“And if anyone dares to bully her just ‘cause she’s an Omega? Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” As he said that, he narrowed his wolf eyes, shooting a sharp glare at the two guests who’d whispered about me earlier.
Those two quickly hung their heads, too scared to look up.
The rest of the guests looked at me with more respect, like they’d totally changed their tune.
Suddenly, someone spoke up from the crowd. “I know Ms. Krom! She’s the girl who saved Elder Cox at a charity gala last time!”
“Whoa! That’s her? I thought she looked familiar.”
“I was there that day too. That girl woke Elder Cox up super fast–she’s amazing!”
“Elder Wilson, come on. We’re the lucky ones to know Ms. Krom.”
“Yeah, don’t worry. If Ms. Krom ever needs anything, she can hit me up.”
I smiled and nodded at all their nice words. “Thanks, everyone. I’ll definitely ask if I need help.”
Chester introduced me to a few important guests, chatted with them for a minute, then went upstairs to talk with some old friends.
Brenda left too, to greet her other friends.
Virginia took Laura and me to the snack table.

We grabbed some desserts and headed to the lounge area, eating and chatting away.
“Lira! Virginia! There you two are!”
We were having a good time talking when a soft voice suddenly came from behind us.
I already smelled that familiar, annoying scent. I frowned and didn’t even bother turning around. Lily tensed up inside me, ready to fight.
Barbara walked over, wearing a pink dress and holding a glass of champagne. She made sure to stop right in front of me.
She opened her mouth to say something, but Laura stood up right away, blocking me. She narrowed her wolf eyes and snapped at Barbara, “Barbara! What are you doing here? You gonna frame Lira again?”
Barbara instantly put on an innocent, hurt look. Her eyes turned red, and her voice cracked. “I didn’t mean to! I got tricked by that photo too!
“Even if I accused Lira at first, Michael cleared it up later. Michael and I were so close–who knew he’d deny we were anything just for her?”
As she talked, a few tears rolled down her face, like she was trying to get people to feel bad for her.
I rolled my eyes, totally annoyed by her act.
I was running out of patience for her drama. If she pulled this stuff in front of me again, I wouldn’t stop Victoria from biting her throat out.
Virginia pulled Laura back down to her seat, then snapped at Barbara, “What do you actually want, coming over here?”
Barbara glanced at her, ignored her question, and turned back to me. “Lira, can I talk to you alone?”
