Lira’s POV:

Someone recognized me and shouted, “Whoa! That’s the genius doctor who saved all those big shots!”
“What? No way!”
“You’re telling me this Omega who looks like a kid is the genius doctor? You must have got person!” someone said, doubting.
Some people stared at me like I was nothing. “How’s this Omega even allowed at this party? Was she invited? She must have sneaked her way in.”
I didn’t give two thoughts to the whispers or the stares around me.
I was walking with Eileen toward the lounge when I saw Sally, Laura, and Joseph coming my way.
“I thought you bailed on us.” Sally pouted and gave me a playful glare.
“I said I’d come, so I did. C’mon, how could I turn down an invite from a beauty like Eileen?” I winked at Sally after I said it.
Laura walked over, linked her arm through mine, and grinned. “Lira, that’s not cool. No wonder it’s so hard to get you to hang out–I guess I’m not a beauty to you?”
I looked at her teasing eyes and smiled. “Cut it out, drama queen. Have I ever said no when you asked me to hang out?”
Joseph grabbed a glass of juice from a waiter’s tray and handed it to me, smiling. “Ignore her. She’s always like this–goofy and tricky.”
I took the juice without hesitation. There were probably a lot of underage kids here today, so besides booze, they had other drinks too.
We were chatting when things got loud at the banquet hall door.
I caught a familiar smell, and my wolf spirits Victoria and Lily got all worked up.
I turned to look. Not far off, Barbara had her arm tight around Michael, with Ethan and Jason trailing behind them.
I was a little caught off guard. I didn’t think they’d show up together.
Barbara saw me too. She squeezed Michael’s arm even tighter right away and smiled all proud.
I snorted and took a sip of my juice.
Michael walked over to me, with Barbara right behind him, not letting go.

When he got to me, Michael greeted me nicely. “Lira, didn’t expect you’d be at Ms. Rivera’s birthday party
too.”
Before I could say a word, Barbara butted in. “Yeah, Lira. If you’d told us you were coming, Michael and I could have picked you up. Taking a taxi must have sucked.
What she really meant: I was a poor Omega who couldn’t afford a car, and I wasn’t strong enough to run here.
I could totally hear the hate and put–down in her voice.
I smiled softly at her, didn’t say a thing and just stared at her quietly.
I couldn’t believe this woman still dared to play these stupid little games with me.
Barbara started shaking a little when I stared at her, and her eyes got all flustered.
I looked at her scared little face and sneered.
I leaned in close to her, making fun of her. “Thanks for the offer. But we’re not friends–no need to bother.”
Barbara’s face got all weird. She forced a smile. “Lira, we’re schoolmates at least. It’s no big deal.”
I swirled the red wine in my glass slowly. “Yeah, well, thanks anyway.”
Then I turned to Michael. “How’s Elder Brewer doing lately?”
Michael was a little shocked, then smiled. “He’s doing great. Thanks to you. Grandpa told me to say he hopes you’ll come over for dinner sometime.”
