Chapter 140
With that thought, Sophie staggered toward the door.
Just as she pulled it open, a tall figure appeared before her.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
The man’s voice was hoarse, tinged with a mocking smile.
“I… I want to go home first,” Sophie stammered.
“Dressed like that?”

Marcus’s gaze swept over her, his tone laced with ambiguity.
She was wearing only a white shirt that barely covered the tops of her thighs. Faint red marks still lingered across her pale skin.
If she went home like this, no one would need to guess what had happened last night.
“I…”
Only then did Sophie glance down and realize just how visible those marks were.
She bolted back to the bed, wrapping herself in the blanket.
“Can you get me something more appropriate to wear?”
Marcus’s lips curved as he set a shopping bag on the nightstand.
“Change into this. When you’re done, let Zack check you over.”
“That’s not necessary. I’ll just go to the hospital myself.”
At the mere sight of Marcus, last night’s memories came rushing back. She couldn’t bear to stay longer.
“Zack is professional, and he won’t talk. Relax.”
“…Fine.”
“Then get changed.”
With that, Marcus left the room.
Sophie pulled out the clothes from the bag–only to notice faint bloodstains on the fabric.
Her brows furrowed. Marcus was injured?
The door knocked, and Zack walked in, with Marcus right behind him.
“How are you feeling? Can I start the examination?” Zack asked as he approached.
Sophie nodded. “Go ahead.”

He conducted a thorough check, finally letting out a relieved breath.
“Luckily, Marcus was with you. The drug hasn’t harmed you, and the baby is healthy. You can relax.”
But then his brow furrowed again.
“Still, since you two already… well, I’ll prescribe something to stabilize the pregnancy, Usually, during the first trimester, intercourse is forbidden. But considering the circumstances last night, don’t feel guilty. Just monitor yourself for bleeding…”
Sophie flushed, coughing awkwardly to stop him.
“We’re all adults here. You don’t need to be shy. Last night-”
“Enough.” Marcus cut him off coldly. “You’re done. Get out.”
Zack snapped his mouth shut, packed his things, and left.
The moment the door closed, the room grew even more suffocating.
Sophie busied herself, fixing her hair, glancing around aimlessly.
“Yesterday, my head wasn’t clear… it felt like I was being controlled. If I did something to you by mistake, just… don’t take it to heart. I don’t remember anything.”
“Oh…”
Marcus dragged out the sound, his expression teasing.
Sophie’s gaze darted away, flustered.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll go. My parents must be worried sick.”
“I already sent someone to inform the Chandler family. They know you’re here.”
“What?” Her face drained of color. “You told them?”
“Is that a problem?” Marcus’s tone was casual. “They’ll be here to pick you up any minute.”
Sophie panicked, rushing to the full–length mirror.
The knit dress Marcus had bought covered her arms and legs, hiding most of the marks. But her collarbone and neck still bore visible traces.
“Do you have a scarf? Please, lend me one.”
Marcus leaned lazily on the sofa, lips curved in amusement.
“You claim you don’t remember anything from last night. So what’s the point in hiding it?”
Her voice shook with urgency, “Marcus, you’re doing this on purpose!”
He arched a brow. “So everything you did to me last night…”
“Shut up! Don’t say another word!” Sophie’s face burned crimson. “Can we not talk about this now? Just… help me hide it from my parents and
Ethan.”
Marcus pressed his lips together, feigning thought.
“And if you play dumb later, pretend you don’t remember, and act like nothing happened?”

Her cheeks blazed hotter. “I remember! I remember everything clearly. I’ll give you an answer–just not now!”
His gaze lingered on her flushed face, a wicked smile tugging at his lips.
“So you do remember.”
Overwhelmed, Sophie rushed to the wardrobe, grabbed a scarf, and wrapped it around her neck.
“When my family comes, don’t you dare say anything.”
“Your call.” Marcus didn’t push further.
Then Sophie paused, recalling the bloodstained bag. She stepped closer, her tone softer.
“You’re hurt, aren’t you? I saw blood on the bag.”
His eyes darkened. “It’s not mine.”
“Then… was it Lena’s?”
“I don’t hit women. It was Liam’s.”
Marcus’s gaze hardened. “He got into a car accident last night. Multiple fractures. Lena’s at the hospital with him now. But ever since he woke up, he’s despised her.”
There was mockery in his tone.
“Maybe he’s just tired of her. Doesn’t love her anymore.”
It didn’t take much for Sophie to piece the truth together. A “car accident” was just the excuse. What really happened… only Marcus knew.
“Marcus… thank you.” Her voice was earnest.
His lips curved faintly. “I didn’t do it for thanks. Last night—I expect an answer.”
The moment he said “last night,” Sophie’s cheeks heated again.
“…I know.”
She bolted for the door, her steps uneven.
Right as she reached the stairs, Ethan Chandler entered the villa.
He stopped in his tracks when he saw Sophie coming down from the second floor–Marcus following right behind.
Ethan’s brows drew together. “Sophie, are you okay?”
