Chapter 185
Sophie suddenly leaned closer and whispered, “Lena, Liam must be watching this live stream right now, don’t you think? Do you really want him to see you running away in disgrace?”
Her words struck a nerve. Lena jerked her hand out of Sophie’s grip.
“Fine. I’ll compete with you!”
A glint of cunning flickered in Sophie’s eyes as she turned and asked Julian to prepare tools for their design challenge.
Lena’s fingers curled tight against her skirt, her gaze burning with determination. Liam was watching–she couldn’t afford to lose.
Ten minutes later, Julian had assistants bring in all the supplies, along with four extra cameras. The cameras were set up around both women, capturing every angle of their sketching process. No tricks, no shortcuts–this was the moment everyone had been waiting for.
Sophie sat down casually, picked up a pencil, and began drawing without hesitation.
Lena, on the other hand, sat rigidly, her fragile face scrunched with tension. She lifted her pen several times but froze, unable to put it down.
“Why would Sophie start from the bottom of the page? Does she even know what she’s doing?”
“Even I know you need to visualize first before drawing! She’s acting like she can just pull ideas out of thin air.”
“Meanwhile, Lena looks so elegant, lost in thought–that’s what a true artist looks like.”
“Exactly. Just watching her, you can tell Lena is the real Liora. Sophie’s just pretending.”
“If Lena isn’t Liora, I’ll livestream myself doing a headstand and eating shit.”
Marcus let out a cold chuckle, pointing at the particular comment on the screen.
“Have Media boost this guy’s ID. Make sure everyone sees it.”
Chris wiped the sweat off his brow, shuddering. Whoever dared mock Marcus’s woman was digging their own grave.
The camera shifted, zooming in on Sophie. Marcus’s sharp eyes softened at once. The cameras weren’t allowed to show the actual drawings–only the artists themselves–but Marcus didn’t need to see her paper. Sophie, relaxed in her seat, her delicate fingers sketching and shading, stray strands of hair brushing against her cheek…To him, she herself was the masterpiece.
She absently tucked a strand behind her ear, leaving a streak of paint across her pale skin. Then, lazily rubbing at it with her elbow, she smudged it into a flower–like mark.
Marcus leaned back, arms folded, eyes locked on the screen. He didn’t blink for half an hour. Chris, meanwhile, gave up trying to remind him of the rescheduled board meeting. No meeting was more important than this woman
Finally, Sophie and Lena both finished. Their drawings were carefully sealed and then revealed to the audience for anonymous voting.
Two designs appeared on the big screen. At first glance, they seemed evenly matched, but the difference was obvious with a closer look.
The left drawing showed a necklace–pearls arranged in elegant order, interrupted by a few slightly different ones, symbolizing defiance against convention and the courage to be unique. It was refined, bold, breathtaking.
The right drawing was a bracelet. But it looked…wrong. A mishmash of elements from Liora’s past designs, without harmony, without soul. A patchwork mess.
The crowd roared.
