**Chapter 25**
In the midst of the chaos, Liam surged forward, his heart pounding in his chest as he prepared to confront Marcus. Yet, despite the tempest of emotions swirling within him, he hesitated to physically push Marcus away. Something in the air felt charged, and he knew that any aggressive move could escalate the situation.
Marcus’s gaze flicked up, his voice icy and unyielding. “Saving her.”
Liam’s frustration bubbled over. “Sophie is my fiancée! I should be the one doing this,” he retorted, desperation lacing his words.
“Do you even know how?” Marcus shot back, his focus unwavering as he continued the life-saving CPR, each breath he forced into Sophie a testament to his determination.
The seconds stretched agonizingly, each one feeling like an eternity, until finally, Sophie began to cough violently, expelling mouthfuls of water that had threatened to drown her.
“You’re okay now, Sophie,” Marcus murmured, relief flickering in his eyes as he held her close.
Liam leaned in, his heart racing with a mix of hope and anxiety as he reached out, eager to take Sophie from Marcus’s arms.
But in a heart-wrenching moment, Sophie instinctively curled tighter into Marcus, her body turning away from Liam’s outstretched hand, as if seeking refuge.
Liam’s breath hitched, and he froze mid-motion, an icy wave of betrayal washing over him. Here, in front of a crowd of onlookers, his fiancée was retreating from him, finding solace in another man’s embrace. The sight was a dagger to his heart.
“Mr. Morgan…” Sophie gasped, her grip tightening around Marcus’s shirt, her voice barely a whisper, “Can you… get me a doctor?”
“I’ll do it. There’s no need to trouble my uncle,” Liam said sharply, the gentleness in his tone evaporating. He seized her wrist, attempting to pull her toward him, desperation clawing at his insides.
Sophie’s face was ghostly pale, her eyes rimmed with red, and she glanced at Marcus with a look that pleaded for understanding and comfort.
Marcus’s expression hardened, his grip on her tightening protectively.
“Get Dr. Mason,” he instructed, his voice firm and commanding.
