**Chapter 26**

In the dimly lit guest room, Dr. Mason had just completed his examination of Sophie, his brow slightly furrowed with concern.

“Fortunately, you weren’t submerged for too long,” he said, his voice steady, yet laced with the gravity of the situation. “The baby is fine.”

With a practiced motion, he tucked his stethoscope into his bag, the sound of the fabric rustling filling the silence. “However, you must ensure you get adequate rest over the next few days. Ignoring this advice could lead to a miscarriage.”

Sophie nodded, her heart racing with a mix of relief and anxiety. “Thank you, Dr. Mason.”

He looked at her earnestly, his eyes reflecting a hint of frustration. “You really shouldn’t have been near the pool, especially knowing your condition.”

Sophie remained silent, her gaze drifting toward Marcus, who stood nearby, his expression unreadable. “Mr. Morgan,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, “I’m truly sorry for causing any trouble.”

Earlier, all that had occupied her mind was the well-being of her unborn child. The chaos around her had been overwhelming, and her instinct had been to escape it as quickly as possible, disregarding the potential consequences of her actions. But now, as the memories flooded back, she recalled how Marcus had rushed to her side, performing CPR and carrying her away from the scene, drawing the eyes of those around them. It was impossible to remain inconspicuous in such a moment.

“Don’t flatter yourself,” Marcus replied coolly, a hint of sarcasm in his tone. “You’re not that significant; I don’t get into trouble because of people like you.”

A wave of relief washed over her.

That’s right—someone like Marcus, with his confidence and poise, would never allow anything about her to disrupt his life.

Suddenly, a loud bang interrupted her thoughts.

“Sophie, are you in there? I need to talk to you!” Liam’s voice echoed from outside, urgent and demanding.

She frowned, a wave of disgust washing over her.

“If you wish to avoid him, I can have someone escort him away,” Marcus offered, casting a quick glance toward the door.
