When she opened her eyes and saw Darion lying beside her, most of his face wrapped in white bandages, she froze for a
moment
The curtains in the hospital room didn’t block out the light, so a thin layer of morning sunlight filtered in
The room was still dim, but Darion lay right next to her, his features sharp and defined, his jawline especially striking.
There was no trace of pain or exhaustion on his face. For once, his eyes hadn’t hurt all night.
Thalia couldn’t help reaching out, wanting to touch his face. But just before her hand made contact, she stopped herself
Her fingers curled back.
What am I doing?’ Thalia thought, feeling a jolt of panic.
Panicked, she quickly withdrew her hand and slowly rolled over, trying to get out of bed.
Good morning, Thalia,” Darion’s deep, slightly husky voice came from beside her.
He sounded a little worn out, his voice gravelly from just waking up.
Thalia stiffened, then reached out and tapped his shoulder in greeting.
But he caught her hand before she could pull away.
He placed her hand right against his cheek. “Were you trying to touch me just now? Why did you stop? You can touch me vherever you like.”
Thalia froze, her cheeks flushing bright red.
Seriously, what a shameless guy!
As if I wanted to touch him!’ she grumbled to herself.
she yanked her hand back, threw off the covers, and got out of bed.
Darion paid close attention to the sounds she made. Just from the way she got out of bed, he could tell she was embarrassed ind frustrated.
He could instantly picture the look on her face.
Even though he couldn’t see her, he could imagine it clearly. Her image was burned into his memory.
He gave a gentle smile and said, “Thalia, I slept really well last night. How about you?”
Thalia stopped in her tracks, picked up her phone, and quickly typed, “I slept well 100.”
“My eyes don’t hurt as much anymore,” Darion added. “With you by my side, I honestly feel so much better
The room went quiet for a while, then her phone’s robotic voice chimed in, “That’s just because the doctor gave you some extra-strength painkillers.”

‘He feels better just because I’m here?
What am I, some kind of magic pill?
Come on, he’s being totally ridiculous!’ she thought.
Thalia tapped out a quick message, “Alright, I’m off to freshen up.”
Her footsteps grew distant as she left the room.
Darion slowly sat up. His eyes still felt a bit sore, but compared to yesterday, it was a huge improvement.
