Chapter 86

Chapter 86

Thalia seized the moment, shoved the car door open, and strode off without a backward glance

“Thalia. Darion’s brow furrowed. He moved to go after her.

Matthew blinked, then quickly stepped into his path. “Whoa, easy. She looks pretty upset. Maybe just give her some space”

Darion brushed past him. “Maybe you should give me some space. What’s this really about?”

Matthew forced a nervous smile. “Actually, there’s something I need from you. I’ve just come back to Evans Group and picked up a project. The client has worked with you before, so I was hoping you could introduce me to him.”

Darion snapped, Talk to my secretary.”

Without waiting for a response, he turned to chase after Thalia. But by the time he reached the street, Thalia had already hopped into a taxi and was gone.

He whipped back around, eyes narrowing at Matthew.

Matthew quickly raised his hands in defense. “Hey, I didn’t mean to. Don’t punch me, okay?!”

Darion took a deep breath, trying to calm the agitation bubbling inside him. He pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a long drag.

The harsh taste of nicotine filled his lungs, and he exhaled slowly, feeling his frustration ease just a little.

Matthew, clearly surprised, raised an eyebrow. “When did you start smoking? You never used to.”

Darion leaned back against the car, his face as blank as ever. “Want one?”

Matthew shook his head. “Nah, not my thing.”

Darion’s lips twitched into a small, almost sarcastic smile. “You will, one day. When you’ve got enough to stress about.”

Matthew frowned, sensing the tension. “Is this about Thalia?”

Darion didn’t answer, but Matthew continued, remembering the past. “I remember back in college, you two were attached at the hip. You’d go to class together, eat together, and even write papers together. Hell, the only thing you didn’t do was sleep in the same bed.”

Darion’s gaze grew darker, a flash of nostalgia crossing his face.

Time had passed, but those memories still lingered. Back then, life was simple and carefree.

He could still recall the pride he felt finishing a project, while she’d drag him out to try some new food joint, her excitement

infectious.

Matthew watched him carefully before hesitating. “I’ve only been back a few days, and I’ve already heard a ton of rumors. So, what’s the deal with you and Miya? Is it real or just some kind of talk?”

Darion’s irritation flared again. He stamped out his cigarette, then turned and got into the car, clearly done with the

conversation.

He couldn’t care less about answering questions like that.
