I Forgot I Ever Loved You novel Chapter 15

Zoe was humming a tune as she came downstairs to grab some warm milk for Lily, only to realize something was terribly wrong.

Nearly all the staff were awake, gathered in the living room and frantically cleaning up the mess.

The overturned coffee table, shattered antiques, and broken glass were scattered everywhere. It looked like it would take all night to clean up.

Startled, she asked with genuine concern,

"Mrs. Gable, did we get robbed? Have you called the cops?"

No one answered her.

Zoe grabbed a glass of milk and turned to head back upstairs when a deep, ominous voice from above made her shiver.

"Ms. Lynd."

Zoe looked up. The man was staring down at her, his expression frigid, his dark eyes like a bottomless, freezing abyss.

"My room. We need to talk."

The staff downstairs froze, all eyes shifting to Zoe in unison.

She felt the warmth of the milk glass in her palm, but a sudden chill ran down her neck and spine.

The heavy drapes in the master bedroom were drawn tight. The only illumination came from a bedside lamp, casting a seductive glow that added a hint of warmth to the otherwise cold room.

Hayden sat in a single armchair, his long legs crossed. He tapped his finger rhythmically against a stack of printed papers on his lap.

"Take a look at this agreement."

Zoe began to sweat nervously.

An agreement? They actually had an agreement between them?

She walked toward him, but she was so tense that she tripped over her own feet, tumbling right onto Hayden along with the glass of milk.
