He suddenly reached out and seized her wrists. Zoe stopped, blinking up at him in utter confusion.

"Enough."

His voice was incredibly hoarse. Startled, Zoe assumed he must be sick and instinctively reached up to feel his forehead.

"What's wrong? You're burning up!"

God, his body temperature was scorching.

He had been perfectly fine when she walked in less than five minutes ago. Did he just spike a fever?

Driven to the edge of madness, Hayden mentally debated whether to throw her onto the bed and take her right then and there, or shove her away entirely. Ultimately, he chose to storm into the bathroom for a freezing cold shower.

This little temptress. He was in no condition to talk business with her right now.

He needed to maintain a clear head to handle this negotiation properly.

Hayden was a man of supreme logic. Faced with Zoe's completely uncharacteristic seduction, his reaction was drastically different from an ordinary man's.

Hearing the rush of running water, Zoe went from bewildered to completely dumbfounded, until realization finally hit her like a ton of bricks, turning her face crimson.

Zoe stared at the puddle of spilled milk on the floor and finally remembered—Lily was still waiting for her drink.

She hurriedly wiped up the mess, turning around to head back downstairs for another glass.

Only to crash right into Hayden as he stepped out of the shower.

Purpose? She was just terrified of him!

He constantly wore that stone-cold poker face like the world owed him millions of dollars.

No wonder even Lily avoided him like the plague.

What was the point of being so ridiculously handsome if he acted like this?

Hayden scoffed, clearly not buying a single word.

"Ms. Lynd, we are married. If you want something, just tell me. Cut it out with these cheap little tricks."

He was referring to her conveniently falling into his arms.

Did Zoe already know he wanted to confront her about Hunter, and was pulling all these stunts to distract him?

The fiery heat in Hayden's eyes cooled into frost, and the grip on her waist loosened.

Forced to stare right into his eyes, Zoe felt the sudden loss of support. She slipped rapidly down his body and landed hard on her backside, pain radiating up her entire spine.
