Before walking out, he felt obliged to offer a friendly piece of advice.
"You should really treat your wife better. This isn't coffee; it's herbal cold medicine."
In this world, only a few of Hayden's closest friends dared to mock him without fearing for their lives.
Hayden nearly vomited on the spot.
His dark, furious gaze locked onto the remaining liquid at the bottom of the mug.
Cold medicine?
Had Zoe and Hunter Keating's relationship run so deep?
Defying him wasn't enough; now she was resorting to poisoning him?
Zoe was working herself dizzy in her office. She lifted the mug of medicine to her lips, took a sip, and instantly spat it back out.
Coffee?
Where did her herbal medicine go?
Staring blankly at the coffee on her desk for a full five seconds, Zoe wanted to cry but had no tears left.
She had delivered her medicine to Hayden?
Wanting to knock out the virus quickly, she had used a double dose. When Colin asked her to make another cup, she had poured half of it into a new mug and sent that in too.
Before Zoe even had time to grieve, Valerie swayed her hips into the office, authoritatively barking orders to rearrange the desks before strutting over to Zoe to show off.
"Ms. Lynd, bet you didn't expect to see me back. Let me tell you, Mrs. Thorne and I are college friends. You don't have what it takes to get rid of me."
Because of her cold, Zoe's head was spinning and her vision was blurry.
But hearing the words 'Mrs. Thorne' instantly woke her up.
Sienna was here at the company?
Perfect. The last time she saw Sienna was at her engagement party to Hayden, which Zoe attended as Hunter's girlfriend.
She wanted to find Sienna and ask exactly what had happened over the past five years.
Just as Zoe stepped out of her office, she saw a tall woman dressed in a haute couture suit walking gracefully toward her, surrounded by a flattering entourage of department heads.
"Mrs. Thorne, what brings you in today?"
The executives were practically bowing, treating Sienna with the utmost reverence.
Zoe's heart inexplicably trembled, instantly forgetting why she had even come.
A sharp pang clutched tightly at her chest, and she practically fled the scene.
Hayden sat in his leather chair, looking calmly at the elegantly dressed, aristocratic woman before him, and frowned.
"Why are you here?"
"I haven't visited the company in a while, so I came to see you. Valerie is my college classmate and fiercely loyal to the company. I wanted to put in a good word and ask you to let her come back."
Hayden's voice remained flat.
"The company belonged to Charles. You're the owner's wife, so you have the final say."
Feeling a rush of warmth in her chest, Sienna leaned in closer, her voice soft.
"I know Valerie offended my sister, and my sister is still upset about Lily being used as a blood donor for Holden. I was worried stepping in would cause friction with my sister."
Seeing that Hayden showed absolutely no intention of defending Zoe, Sienna felt relieved.
She reached out her long, manicured fingers, trailing them slowly from Hayden's left shoulder to his right, leaning in so closely her lips almost brushed his ear.
"Aside from using cheap tricks to seduce you, she also tried to seduce my father when she was sixteen."
