Sienna thought she misread it. Hayden had actually gone to Thorne Enterprises.

Over the past five years, he had occasionally returned to headquarters, but never for long. He used to bring her along, and everyone there had treated her like the boss's wife.

Stunned, it took her a moment to reply.

Hayden seemed busy; she could hear a murmur of voices growing closer in the background.

"I've got things to handle here."

He hung up before offering any further explanation.

Inside the office, Timothy Yates, Sebastian Shaw, and Tristan Sommer trailed respectfully behind Commissioner Jasper Sterling.

Hayden had his secretary bring in a premium tea set. Five minutes later, Garrett Kendall arrived.

Hayden and Garrett locked eyes for a brief second before glancing away.

Hayden's displeasure with Garrett was obvious, and Garrett's expression was just as sour.

Fortunately, everyone had walked in at staggered intervals and was busy exchanging greetings, so no one noticed the silent hostility between the two men.

"I heard you were on vacation abroad for the last two months, Garrett. Back so soon?"

Timothy always kept tabs on Zoe. She and Garrett were publicly known as close family friends, and their interactions had always seemed platonic, completely lacking the spark of a secret romance.

He had heard they traveled together with Zoe's kid and a few maids.

It sounded like a wholesome family getaway, with the maids there just to look after Zoe's daughter.

Timothy dismissed the idea of them being a couple. If there was a real romance, they wouldn't have gone on such a highly publicized, entourage-heavy trip.

Why invite scandal when it could be avoided?

Garrett merely gave a noncommittal hum, offering no explanation. Timothy was just fishing for news about Zoe anyway.

Hayden watched Garrett intently. The man's lips were sealed, giving absolutely nothing away.

Jasper had no idea that the Zoe he was searching for was Garrett's close family friend.

Since Garrett didn't elaborate on the trip, Timothy and the others dropped the subject.
