Garrett had no desire to keep trading verbal blows with Nita.

But he couldn't make executive decisions regarding Zoe's affairs either.

"I'll call Zoe. We'll see if she's willing to meet with you."

Nita stood there with her arms crossed, exuding haughty arrogance.

Garrett's phrasing made her instinctively arch an eyebrow.

"Excuse me?" Nita was seething.

Whether Zoe was willing to see her?

Zoe was certainly putting on incredible airs.

Ultimately, Nita kept her mouth shut, watching as Garrett called Zoe to relay her demands.

"Let me speak to her."

Seeing the call connect, Nita reached out to grab the phone, but Garrett dodged her hand and simply put it on speaker.

"Zoe, we need to meet. I have questions for you."

Garrett waited for Nita to finish her demand before pulling his phone back.

With his deep, steady voice, he asked, "Zoe, what do you think?"

Zoe had just reached a stopping point in her work.

She knew Nita's temper. If she refused, Nita would relentlessly harass them and use the Thorne family's influence to apply pressure.

There was no need to cause trouble for the Kendall family.

"Garrett, bring her here." She couldn't leave easily; exiting the base was a tedious process that required Commissioner Jasper Sterling to assign a dedicated detail, and it would cause far too much commotion.

Her only option was to have Nita come to the Command Center.

Having received clearance, Garrett made Nita sign the NDA before driving her directly to the Fort Hamilton Command Center.

"Ms. Lynd, Director Yates wants to know if you'd like the team to take a quick break or keep pushing through."

Zoe smiled faintly. "They can take ten minutes. I'll be over as soon as I'm done here."

Glancing at the wall clock, Zoe said politely, "Mrs. Thorne, I only have five minutes. Please keep this brief."

Nita's pupils trembled slightly. She was acutely aware of the heavy authority attached to the title "Ms. Lynd" in a place like this.

Looking Zoe up and down, Nita scoffed a few seconds later. "It seems Sienna was right. You really have made something of yourself."

Zoe didn't quite catch her meaning, nor did she care to dig into it. She just wanted to get rid of Nita as quickly as possible.

"Mrs. Thorne, if you have something to say, just say it. There's no need to beat around the bush."

"Why did Sienna leave? What is it going to take for you to leave the Thorne family and stay away from my son?"

Zoe arched an eyebrow, thoroughly unimpressed. "Hayden and I are already divorced. Didn't he tell you? As for Sienna's situation, I genuinely have no idea. If there's nothing else, I need to get back to work."

Those few dismissive sentences were far from enough to satisfy Nita.
