I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 654

Quentin looked calmly at Charles. "Charles, do you really love Sienna that much?"

"Yes," Charles replied without hesitation. "She is my wife. I love her, which is why I married her. And I don't want anyone disturbing us."

Hayden and Quentin watched Charles retreat into his sanctuary. The two men got into the car but didn't immediately drive away.

"You dragged me all the way here on a private jet just to see Charles?" Quentin asked. "It's a miracle he's not dead."

Hayden scoffed coldly. "It's no miracle. He was never on that plane."

Quentin's pupils contracted. "He wasn't on it? What does that mean?"

Hayden ignored Quentin's question and posed one of his own. "Did you notice anything strange?"

He had brought Quentin along for a reason.

"I don't need to say it. You saw it too."

Charles was completely detached from his family, yet single-mindedly devoted to his love.

And he was solely devoted to Sienna. He completely disregarded everyone else, as if he were under some sort of spell.

"Isn't Charles acting exactly the same way Zoe acted with me for the past five years?"

As Hayden's personal on-call doctor, Quentin had interacted with Zoe more than anyone else. He had witnessed her desperate, life-or-death episodes. The way she used to look at Hayden had long surpassed the boundaries of normal, healthy love. It was a pathological obsession and need for controlโ€”severe enough to drive her to self-harm.

"The look in his eyes is exactly the same. As for his behavior, his coldness toward you and me matches Zoe perfectly. We haven't had any contact with him for five years, so I'm afraid Sienna is the only one who knows what his actual condition is."

Hayden clenched his fists. "Sienna hasn't left the city for the past five years." Charles wasn't dead. If he was truly as obsessed with Sienna as Zoe had been with Hayden, he wouldn't have let her out of his sight for five straight years.

Quentin rubbed his nose. "Did you forget the rest of what I said? There's a type of psychoactive drug that scrambles the nervous system. Long-term use alters a person's temperament and makes them highly susceptible to suggestion. It's like hypnosis.

I just don't know the exact methodโ€”how they dose them or how they get the victim to follow commands. But it's a big world, and strange things happen. Zoe waking up was a stroke of pure luck. The source of Zoe's issue was definitely your dear sister-in-law, but Charles's situation feels a bit different. There's something off that I can't quite put my finger on. I'll let you know when I figure it out."

Hayden shot him a lethal look, and Quentin leaned away to avoid his wrath.

"That's exactly the same as saying nothing. I didn't bring you here for a pseudo-science lecture."

Hayden finally started the car. Less than ten minutes into the drive, he suddenly glanced at Quentin. "If Charles jumped off a building, do you think the impact would knock him back to his senses?"

"..."

Quentin's mouth twitched. "It could also just kill him."
