Asher called for the driver.
Yasmine bit her lower lip, tears gradually welling up in her eyes.
Nadia returned to her old bedroom. She had just reached the door when the sound of shattering objects echoed from downstairs.
She turned and looked down from the landing, just in time to see Asher carrying someone out in his arms, rushing hurriedly toward the door.
There was a shocking pool of blood on the floor.
The maids were scrambling to clean up the pieces of a shattered antique vase.
It was Asher's favorite piece.
Nadia remembered a time in her childhood when she accidentally knocked that very vase over. She had narrowly escaped a thrashing from her uncle.
Watching the two figures disappear into the distance, Nadia felt a sudden, inexplicable stab of pain in her chest.
Her phone buzzed in her bag. She locked herself in her room and pulled it out, only to find five missed calls from Zoe.
Nadia quickly called back, her tone frosty.
"Mrs. Thorne..."
The sarcasm was palpable.
"Nadia, your uncle didn't do anything to you, did he? Do you want me to talk to him?"
Relieved to finally hear Zoe sounding like a decent person, Nadia's tone softened a fraction.
"No need."
Asher was too busy fussing over his girlfriend of five years to bother with her.
Nadia made herself a cup of coffee and sat cross-legged on her bed.
"It's weird. Why couldn't I get through to your phone, but you could call me?"
Zoe was taken aback. Had Nadia tried to call her?
Swirling her coffee, Nadia spoke with a nonchalant but dangerous edge.
Her voice was low.
"You didn't block my number, did you?"
"..."
Zoe scrambled frantically with her phone.
She really had.
Hayden was right in the middle of a highly important meeting at the company.
Mrs. Gable's call came through on speakerphone.
"Sir, the missus snuck out again. It looks like she's going on a date with some man."
A dead silence instantly fell over the entire conference room.
Sienna, acting as the unofficial first lady of Easton Group, was sitting in on the meeting.
Five years ago, Charles Thorne, the president of Easton Group, had died in a plane crash.
Hayden took over the company, but only as acting president. The business still belonged to Charles's estate.
Sienna, the grieving widow, was constantly seen at Hayden's side, sparking endless rumors.
Everyone in the company practically viewed Sienna as Hayden's future wife.
It wasn't unheard of for a brother to marry his late sibling's widow, after all.
Plus, they had originally been a couple anyway. The city's elite fully expected them to get back together.
People were quite impressed by Sienna, marveling at how she managed to make both of the outstanding Thorne brothers fall for her.
