I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 100

Gillian took the food from Julian's hands, keeping her eyes lowered. She didn't spare York a single glance. Her voice was terrifyingly calm and utterly distant. "Thank you, Mr. Foster."

Hearing her flat, emotionless tone, York's icy eyes darkened. His mind suddenly flashed back to the past. Gillian used to always look at him with a tender smile. Even when he was completely ice-cold to her, she was always bright and accommodating. Even during her hysterical outbursts over the past few weeks, she had never acted quite like this. Her sudden, polite estrangement made an intense wave of irritation claw at his chest.

He furrowed his brow, opening his mouth to speak, but an incoming business call interrupted him. He glanced at the caller ID and eventually turned away to take it.

It was a progress report call, but he barely registered a word. As soon as he hung up, he turned the corner to head back—only to see Gillian standing by the trash can with the takeout boxes. Her pale face held absolutely zero emotion as she simply lifted her arm and dumped the meal he had personally caught and delivered straight into the garbage.

York stopped dead in his tracks. In an instant, his face clouded over with explosive fury.

Right at that moment.

Xavier walked up to Gillian and handed her a bottle of water with genuine concern. "It's fine if you don't want to eat. Just drink some water. Try not to stress yourself out too much."

"Okay." Gillian offered him a faint, real smile. She took the water and drank a few sips.

Julian watched the entire scene unfold, his scalp tingling with sheer terror. His heart was practically pounding out of his chest. He didn't even dare to look at his boss's face, doing everything he could to blend into the wallpaper.

York's face darkened drastically. His grip on his phone tightened to a white-knuckled death grip. The suffocating pressure radiating off him seemed to physically drop the temperature in the entire corridor.

So the food he had brought her was nothing but trash in her eyes? She had completely, ruthlessly humiliated him right to his face—and right in front of another man, no less!

Wearing a lethal scowl, he marched straight toward Gillian.

He fixated on her face. It was as delicate and exquisite as it had always been, but now, it carried a cold, unfamiliar edge he had never seen before.

A turbulent storm of dark rage raged in York's eyes. But the second he met Gillian's dead, unreadable gaze, his lips tightened. He shifted his eyes down, staring intensely at her still-flat stomach for a long moment.

That single thought allowed him to reign in his temper yet again. "Did the food not suit your tastes? Tell me what you want. I'll have Susan or the private chef make you something else."

"I don't want to eat," Gillian replied flatly, refusing to even look at him. Her voice was startlingly serene. "Mr. Foster is a busy man. You should go."

Her tone was filled with pure apathy. It wasn't a tantrum. It wasn't a bluff.
