I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 101

He had a busy morning, but he managed to squeeze in some fishing. He sent his catch back for Susan to prepare, and after his meetings ended, he rushed home to pack the freshly cooked fish and sides, hurrying to bring her the meal.

Instead of appreciating the gesture, she left him seething with frustration.

When he left, Gillian didn't even spare him a glance.

Julian Thorne jogged after his boss, and they departed together.

Mrs. Jordan's surgery took eight agonizing hours, stretching from eight in the morning until six in the evening. The entire process was long and torturous.

Xavier Sterling stayed by Gillian's side the entire time, patiently offering comforting words to soothe her nerves.

She was deeply grateful.

When the doctor finally emerged to announce the surgery was a success, the tension drained from Gillian's body, and she collapsed to a crouch on the floor.

Xavier crouched down beside her, gently patting her back. "It's over now," he said calmly. "Your mother needs to be monitored in the intensive care unit. You haven't eaten properly all day. Let's go grab some food."

Gillian looked up at him, her eyes red. "I've taken up so much of your time again..."

She honestly didn't know how to thank him.

The man smiled reassuringly. "I have plenty of time to spend with a young lady like you."

His tone was steady, sounding much like a comforting elder.

Gillian froze slightly. Her older brother used to speak to her in that exact same way.

She felt a wave of dizziness; she just missed her brother too much...

After finishing dinner with Xavier.

Gillian returned home to grab a change of clothes.

As she walked through the door, the smell of smoke hit her. Frowning, she flicked on the lights and saw York sitting on the sofa. The ashtray on the coffee table was overflowing with cigarette butts and ash.

A cigarette was still clamped between his fingers, and the entire living room was hazy with smoke.

Gillian's frown deepened. York had quit smoking when she was pregnant with their first child.
