It was his way of comforting her.
Gillian nodded with a smile. "You're right. You can't let one mistake ruin your life. I need to start looking forward."
"Gillian, hasn't your husband divorced you yet?" Hailey walked in at that exact moment, clutching a stack of medical files.
York was right behind her, clearly there to pick Hailey up from work. His expression was dangerously grim.
He had likely overheard her conversation with Xavier.
If he heard it, he heard it. Gillian remained completely unfazed.
It wasn't the first time he'd caught her talking poorly about him behind his back.
Hailey offered a sugary smile. "I brought you some files. Remember, I promised to transfer a few of my patients to you."
"A few of them have follow-up appointments tomorrow, and there are some inpatients you'll need to check on. It's almost quitting time, so you might have to work late to review their charts."
Gillian gave a wry smile. "Don't forget, all of those cases in your hands used to be mine to begin with."
Hailey hesitated for a second. "But you've been away from the hospital for so long. Their vitals and conditions could have changed."
"You still need to review the files to get up to speed on their current health."
Gillian let out a scoff, her voice perfectly level. "Do you think everyone relies on textbooks and manuals for everything like you do? You act like you can't function without a reference guide. You still think like a student."
"A healthy, stable pregnancy won't show abnormal changes in vitals. And if there were any red flags, you wouldn't be standing here gossiping with me."
