I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 61

“I just heard that Vice President Stanton might be engaged.”

Gillian remained unfazed.

Hailey pursed her lips, her eyes brimming with calculated concern. “You can't let him string you along. You don't want to end up as his dirty little secret...”

Gillian paused, a sharp laugh escaping her lips as she glanced at Hailey. A literal mistress was trying to lecture her about morals?

“We're just friends,” Gillian replied.

“Oh? I thought you two were a couple,” Hailey said, feigning innocence. “But Gillian, the seat you're occupying right now is meant for the future Mrs. Stanton.”

“Everyone here is going to assume you're the mistress. They probably all know Vice President Stanton has a fiancé, and it clearly isn't you.”

Gillian didn't flinch. She elegantly tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, her beauty radiant and effortless. She looked at Hailey with a scoff, completely unfazed. “And what about you? Is the seat you're taking meant for Mrs. Foster?”

Hailey lowered her gaze, biting her lip to look pitiful. “York told me to sit here. He's my boyfriend, so we have every right. He even said he's taking me to meet his parents in a few days.”

“Is that so?” Gillian glanced at York. His expression was as cold and unreadable as ever.

She smiled, retracting her gaze, and took a delicate sip of her orange juice. “Then you'd better hold on tight to that Mrs. Foster seat.”

Hailey brightened at the perceived compliment. “In that case, Gillian, you really shouldn't sit there. I saw Eleanor Stanton glaring at Miles earlier, telling him to keep his distance from you. Why don't you come sit with the Foster family? York said everyone is busy today, so there's an empty seat for you.”

Hailey was completely oblivious to the sarcasm, still playing the role of the generous Foster matriarch “helping” her out.

Gillian scoffed, unable to tell if Hailey was genuinely that stupid or just an exceptional actress. She didn't respond and made no move to get up.

“Gillian, sitting over here is still better than being called a homewrecker, right?” Hailey raised her voice intentionally.
