I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 68

Evelyn called York over directly.

He had changed back into yesterday's clothes—a crisp white button-down with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his toned forearms. Faint veins mapped across his skin, making him look dangerously attractive.

He picked up the divorce agreement, his eyes scanning the pages.

A cold smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth before he tossed the document onto the coffee table. “My mother certainly looks out for you.”

Watching him throw the papers down, Gillian knew he had no intention of signing.

She kept her tone perfectly level. “If you're unhappy with the terms, we can negotiate. All I want are the shares to my father's hospital.”

That belonged to her family. When the Jordan family went bankrupt, The Foster Group had immediately absorbed the hospital.

York ignored her completely. He turned his predatory gaze to Evelyn, his voice dropping to a freezing register. “Mom, if you want me to divorce Gillian, fine. I don't care about the terms in this contract. I'll sign it the second you welcome Hailey into this family.”

Evelyn's face darkened. The Foster family was a century-old dynasty. A woman like Hailey—especially a known mistress—would never be permitted to cross their threshold.

They would become the laughingstock of the entire city.

Gillian lowered her gaze. He was actually willing to throw away half of his empire just to secure Hailey's status.

“Absolutely not,” Evelyn snarled. “That woman is trash. Stop letting her manipulate you!”

York shot a freezing glare at Gillian. “Have you been trashing Hailey to my mother again?”

Gillian almost laughed out loud from the sheer absurdity.

“If Hailey can't officially join the Foster family, then this marriage stays exactly as it is.”

Without another word, York turned and walked out.

“York Foster!” Evelyn shook with pure rage. “What kind of poison did that homewrecker feed you?!”

“It's alright, Mom,” Gillian said, calmly retrieving the rejected divorce papers. “I'll go talk to him.”

“He thinks he's untouchable now. I can't control him anymore!” Evelyn fumed.

Gillian carried the documents to the courtyard parking lot.

York hadn't left. He was leaning against the hood of his car, smoking a cigarette.

She vividly remembered him quitting smoking during her first pregnancy. She had no idea when he had picked the habit back up.
