Her voice was as lethally cold as a winter storm.

Hailey paused, staring at Gillian with a sickeningly condescending gaze of pity. “Gillian, you don't need to feel ashamed. We all know your father's crimes have nothing to do with you...”

“Shut your mouth,” Gillian snapped.

Hailey bit her lip, her eyes brimming with even more theatrical pity. She clearly felt it was her moral duty to lecture her. “Gillian, your father is a monster. You shouldn't destroy your own life crying over a piece of trash like him...”

She was perched on her moral high horse, gazing down at Gillian with absolute disgust.

The sheer audacity of it made Chloe's blood boil. What a manipulative bitch!

Just as Chloe opened her mouth to scream at her, Gillian snatched up her tray and slammed the plate of food straight at Hailey's head.

Hailey shrieked in terror. Before the plate could make contact, York materialized, yanking Hailey securely into his arms. The heavy plate and scalding food crashed violently into York's back.

Safe in his embrace, Hailey trembled violently, acting as though she had just survived a murder attempt.

“York! Gillian just... I was only trying to comfort her about her dad! I have no idea why she just exploded like that!”

The deafening crash brought the entire cafeteria to a dead halt. Every single pair of eyes locked onto the scene.

York's face was thunderous. He shrugged off his ruined suit jacket and leveled a lethal glare at Gillian. “Hailey was trying to be nice, and you physically attacked her? Did you conveniently forget she's pregnant and has a heart condition? If your little stunt put her in the hospital...”

Gillian stood perfectly still. She took a ragged breath, forcibly shoving down her boiling rage, her hands trembling as they clenched into tight fists.

Chloe jumped up, glaring furiously at York. “Hailey was deliberately rubbing salt in Gillian's wounds! Gillian told her to shut up, and she kept pushing!”
