"No, I just didn't want to bother you."
Gillian looked at him, her tone impeccably polite.
"Is it because I have a fiancée, so you..."
Gillian interrupted him. "No, it's not that. I've thought about things a lot lately. I can't keep taking advantage of your feelings for me. I know you care about me, and I've been using that to get you to help me with so many things..."
Miles frowned. "How is that using me? I did it all willingly. You never asked me to do anything; it was always my own choice."
"Regardless, thank you," Gillian offered him a faint, gentle smile.
Miles's gaze darkened slightly before he spoke again. "Then let's have dinner together tonight. I have plans with Xavier Sterling. I'll take you to meet him."
Gillian frowned, her lips parting slightly as she prepared to refuse.
Before she could, the man pressed on.
"Gillian, don't say no. You need Xavier's help. I'm just introducing you two; treat it like making a new friend. Whether or not he takes your divorce case is entirely up to him."
"Besides, just because I like you and you don't feel the same way, does that mean we can't even be friends anymore?" Miles looked at her warmly. "If that's the case, I won't bother you again."
Gillian let out a soft sigh. There really was no need to cut ties so ruthlessly.
He had gone out of his way to help her, and pushing him away now would make her look like an ungrateful jerk.
"Alright," Gillian finally agreed. "I'll go home and change first."
Miles's brow relaxed. "I'll drop you off, and then we can head over together."
