I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 75

When Gillian opened her eyes the next morning, Susan was standing by her bed.

Her eyes were damp with a lingering mist. The memory felt far too tangible to be a dream, and she could almost swear the room still held the faint, crisp scent of York's cologne.

"Miss Jordan, you're awake! Are you feeling any better?" Susan asked with a warm smile. "Did you drink the ginger and date tea I made for you last night? I left it on your nightstand."

Gillian glanced at the empty bowl by her bed, an inexplicable, sharp ache suddenly twisting in her chest.

"Did York come back last night?"

"I'm not sure. I made the tea and then went home to sleep..."

Gillian rubbed her temples wearily.

Ever since she got pregnant, her weakened state made her prone to vivid, pathetic dreams where she greedily sought out the brief illusions of York's tenderness.

They had fought so viciously yesterday. There was no way York would bother taking care of her.

She must have just woken up in a daze and drank it herself.

Gillian got out of bed and went to the dining room for breakfast. Today's spread looked slightly different—it was entirely composed of nutrient-rich, iron-boosting foods.

She paused as she stared at the lavish dishes.

Susan quickly chimed in, "Mr. Foster ordered me to make foods that boost vitality and blood sugar. He thought you might like them."

Gillian's grip on her chopsticks tightened. She took a slow breath and asked flatly, "He already packed a portion to take away, didn't he?"

"Uh..." Susan stammered.

She had indeed packed a separate container and brought it upstairs.

Gillian lowered her eyes and took large, mechanical bites of the food. "You don't have to explain. I know."

These dishes were rich in nutrients—perfectly suited for a pregnant woman.

York had clearly ordered them for Hailey. Gillian was just getting the leftovers.

In fact, hiring Susan back was probably mostly to cook for his pregnant mistress.
