I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 76

Gillian didn't even look up from the medical charts, her tone deadpan and dismissive. "If you have nothing to hide, why are you so terrified?"

"Gillian..." Hailey sobbed, looking at her with wide, incredulous eyes. "I never thought you were this kind of person. I've always respected you as my mentor, yet here you are spreading vicious gossip about my private life..."

Gillian's hand paused over the files.

She lifted her gaze to meet Hailey's tear-streaked face. "I don't have the free time to obsess over your private life. If you insist on outing yourself over a vague rumor, that's your own problem."

"You don't need to come crying to me based on some baseless paranoia. I didn't hold a gun to your head and force you to be a mistress. If you want someone to blame, go ask York why he kept you a dirty secret. Understood?"

Hailey was visibly stunned by the frosty hostility in Gillian's eyes. Sniffling defensively, she muttered, "Why do you call him by his first name? Everyone else respects him enough to call him Mr. Foster."

Gillian was speechless.

Moron.

She couldn't tell if Hailey was genuinely that stupid or just an incredible actress. How could she possibly care about titles at a time like this?

Ultimately, Hailey ran out of the office sobbing.

Gillian massaged her throbbing temples. The melodrama had given her a massive headache. She shut down her computer and headed to the lounge to catch some sleep.

But the moment she laid down, her phone buzzed. It was York.

"Gillian, why are you constantly targeting Hailey?"

His voice was frigid, dripping with aggressive interrogation.

She didn't even have to guess. Hailey had undoubtedly gone crying to him.

Gillian pressed her lips together, her voice unsettlingly calm. "York, do you honestly think I'm bored enough to spread gossip? If I wanted to ruin her, she would have been branded a public homewrecker the second you flaunted her around."

Silence stretched over the line.

Then, he spoke again.

"Who's to say you didn't do it out of spite because I refused to sign the divorce papers?"
