I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 78

The woman at the door was dressed in a pristine Chanel suit, her hair and makeup flawlessly styled. It was instantly obvious she was a wealthy heiress.

Miles furrowed his brow. "Quinn, what are you doing here?"

Gillian pressed her lips together. Judging by the hostility in the woman's eyes and the way Miles addressed her, Gillian could easily guess who this was.

She quickly pulled her jacket back on.

This had to be Miles's fiancée.

Quinn Holloway glared at the space between them, her eyebrows knitting tightly. "What exactly are you two doing?"

The look she shot Gillian was icy and overwhelmingly aggressive.

Gillian felt the sheer weight of her hostility. It was as if Quinn had been harboring a grudge against her for a very long time.

"Vice President Stanton called me in to discuss work, and the water spilled," Gillian said with a polite smile. "I'll be taking my leave now."

With that, she walked out.

Quinn's eyes burned with suppressed fury, yet she maintained a sickeningly sweet smile on her face. She locked eyes with Miles. "So that's Gillian Jordan. I've heard all the stories about how you two were the golden couple back in med school. Now you return to the country, refuse to take over the family business, and insist on playing Vice President at a hospital—all for her?"

"I heard the whispers on my way up. Everyone says you're the new golden couple of Eastwood Memorial."

"Quinn," Miles warned sharply. "There is nothing inappropriate going on between us."

Quinn's lips curled into a mocking smirk as she stepped forward on her heels, boldly looping her arm through his. "I don't care if there's anything going on or not. You are my fiancé. The Holloway family comes from a century-old lineage of scholars, and we care about our reputation. I will not tolerate a single stain on my future husband. And I'm sure you don't want to see her public image completely destroyed."

The threat laced into her words was unmistakable.

Miles's gaze grew dark, though his face remained perfectly composed. "You don't need to remind me. I know exactly what I'm doing."

"Glad to hear it," Quinn smiled sweetly. "Miles, I know you don't love me, but we were both born into prominent families. We can't escape this arranged marriage. Since fate pushed us together, we might as well cooperate and make the most of it."
