I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 79

It wasn't that he was blind to her struggles; he simply never cared enough to notice.

Gillian swallowed the bitter lump in her throat, grabbed the keys to the Maybach, and slammed the drawer shut.

The rain was relentless, severely reducing visibility, forcing her to drive at a crawl.

It took her forty minutes to reach The Glass Pavilion. When she stepped out of the car and opened her umbrella, the violent winds ripped at it, thrashing her slender body. In the freezing downpour, she looked incredibly fragile, and within seconds, her clothes were plastered to her skin.

The soaked fabric clung to her, sending a bone-deep chill straight to her core.

She hurried to the entrance, but the security guard blocked her path. "Only members are allowed inside. You can ask your friend to come out and get you, or have them call the front desk to authorize your entry."

The Glass Pavilion was an ultra-exclusive playground for the elite. Without a membership, the doors remained firmly shut.

Gillian frowned, her slender hand gripping the umbrella tightly as the wind whipped it in all directions. With her free hand, she pulled out her phone and dialed York's number.

She called twice. No answer.

Standing there, utterly drenched and shivering, she called a third time. Still no answer.

"Excuse me, could you please notify Mr. York Foster inside? Tell him someone named Gillian is here to pick him up." Her teeth chattered from the cold.

The security guard remained expressionless. "I apologize, but we are not allowed to disturb our VIP guests."

Places like this dealt with opportunists trying to sneak in every day. The guards would never interrupt a member's party over a stranger's desperate plea.

Gillian let out a shaky breath, the freezing rain nothing compared to the absolute ice in her heart.

"Gillian?"

A steady, familiar male voice cut through the noise behind her.

"Mr. Sterling," Gillian turned, offering him a frail, embarrassed smile.

"What are you doing out here?" Xavier looked at her. Her hair was plastered against her pale, delicate face. Despite looking like a drowned rat, there was a breathtaking, tragic beauty to her.

"Looking for someone? Come on, I'll take you in."

Thanks to Xavier, she was finally allowed past the heavy doors.
