I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 86

Gillian suddenly felt as though she had been plunged into an icy wasteland, her limbs freezing into total paralysis.

Her body felt weightless and hollow. Her vision blurred, and the world rapidly slipped away into darkness.

"Gillian!"

In the final second before she completely lost consciousness, she heard someone calling her name. She collapsed into a familiar, warm embrace, her weak voice murmuring deliriously.

-

When Gillian opened her eyes again, she was staring at a hospital ceiling.

The sharp scent of antiseptic filled the air—a harsh, clinical smell she was intimately used to.

Panic struck immediately. Remembering her mother's critical condition, she tried to force herself upright.

A firm hand gently pressed her shoulder down, stopping her.

Gillian blinked, her eyes focusing on the man beside her bed. "Mr. Sterling?"

He had saved her again.

Xavier, dressed impeccably in black, looked down at her with an unreadable expression. "You're quite the daredevil, Dr. Jordan. Pushing yourself to the absolute brink of exhaustion while pregnant."

Gillian's heart stopped. She looked down in terror. "My baby..."

"A threatened miscarriage. We got you here in time, and the baby is safe for now."

Xavier's voice was grounding and steady. "But the next few days are critical. If the bleeding starts again, the pregnancy won't survive."

"You need to keep your stress levels completely managed. You're in the danger zone."

As a maternity director, Gillian knew exactly what the diagnosis meant.

"Mr. Sterling, I honestly don't know how to thank you."

Xavier smiled faintly. "I told you, you're a friend of Miles, which makes you a friend of mine. It was a small favor. Don't mention it."

"How long was I out?"

Xavier glanced at his watch. "Three hours."

Which meant he had sat by her side for three solid hours.

Gillian pressed her lips together. "I'm so sorry for taking up your time. I'm fine now, please go back to whatever you need to do. Once my life settles down, dinner is on me."
