In the next second, York shoved her backward by the shoulders, forcing her back into the elevator.
Gillian was incredibly weak. Her body still hadn't recovered from the violent fall that afternoon, and she hadn't kept any food down.
The sudden, aggressive shove instantly made her nauseous. She clutched her chest, leaning heavily against the elevator wall, looking as though she was about to be sick.
York punched the button for the first floor. He frowned as he took in her fragile, trembling state and her ghastly pale complexion.
It seemed her mother's medical crisis had taken a massive toll on her.
York had never seen Gillian look this sickly and broken.
Then, his eyes dropped to her hands. As she clutched her chest, he noticed the faint indentation on her ring finger. The diamond was gone.
York didn't wear his wedding band, but outside of her surgical hours, Gillian had never taken hers off.
Even when she had practically thrown the divorce in his face, she had kept the ring on. Today, it was missing.
A dangerous muscle ticked in York's jaw. His face turned thunderous, his eyes bleeding with cold fury.
The elevator doors pinged open.
York dragged her by the wrist out to the hospital courtyard. In the dead of night, the garden was completely deserted.
Gillian stared at him, her eyes devoid of any warmth. "What do you want? Are you going to drag me back upstairs to apologize to Hailey again?"
"Where is the ring?"
He jerked her hand up, staring at her empty finger, his voice dangerously low.
Gillian frowned, trying to wrench her hand free. "Let go of me."
"I asked you, where is the ring?"
Gillian actually let out a dry laugh. She met his furious glare head-on. "Does it matter? Our marriage has been a sham since day one. I should have taken it off years ago."
