Gillian had transformed from her once docile self into this sharp-tongued woman.
The man slightly furrowed his brow.
He stared at her sickly pale face in silence for a few seconds.
Eventually.
He spoke in a flat tone, "You're angry that Hailey is by my side, and you're mad that she stepped on you and your father's reputation to get ahead. So now you're throwing a tantrum with me, is that it?"
In his eyes, everything she did was just a tantrum. It was all just petty jealousy.
Gillian found it almost comical.
Their thought processes had never existed in the same universe.
"Yes, I'm angry. So are you willing to pull her off the project and ensure she never touches my father's life's work? Are you going to break up with her?"
York narrowed his eyes at her and suddenly let out a laugh.
"It seems Mrs. Foster is only ever concerned with petty jealousy after all."
The man leaned in close, his breath hot and searing against the shell of her ear.
Gillian frowned and dodged away. She was thoroughly repulsed by his touch now. She hated sharing things with anyone; it made her stomach turn.
"Gillian, have the baby, and I'll cover all of your mother's medical expenses. Tomorrow, the expert team will do everything in their power to ensure her surgery is a success."
York locked eyes with her. "After all, you wouldn't want to gamble with your mother's life, would you?"
"Miles Stanton can't give you these resources; he has a fiancée watching his every move. And the Sterling family certainly doesn't have the influence to bypass the waitlist for a top-tier medical team."
His large hand gently stroked her soft cheek, his voice hauntingly calm. "But your husband can back you with everything he has. What they can't give you, your husband can."
York stood up and looked down at her coolly. "Think about it carefully."
How could she possibly need to think about something like this?
Her mother's life was not something to be trifled with.
As she watched him turn to leave.
She clenched her fists and spoke up. "Save my mother."
