I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 97

York gave her a flat look. "Are you chasing me away?"

"Hailey has nurses taking care of her. Sleeping at the hospital is uncomfortable. I'll sleep here; it makes it easier to keep an eye on her anyway."

Gillian said no more.

The massive RV was laid out like a full apartment—a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom—but there was only one queen-sized bed.

York was over six feet tall, making the bed feel rather cramped when he lay down.

Gillian practically pressed herself against the innermost wall.

Suddenly, the man reached out from behind, his large arm sweeping her firmly into his embrace.

Gillian frowned and tried to struggle.

The man's low voice rumbled against her back. "Stop moving, Mrs. Foster. You've slept next to me for five years. Why act so prudish now?"

She took a deep breath, knitting her brows, but ceased her struggling.

She was the one who needed him right now.

Just then, York's phone rang. Gillian involuntarily glanced at the screen—it was a call from Hailey.

She figured York would be leaving any second now.

Hailey was a clingy young girl who was head over heels for York. She was in the hospital in the middle of a raging thunderstorm. She was undoubtedly terrified, so of course she was calling York to demand his company.

Gillian braced herself for another night of sleeping alone through a storm. She used to be terrified of them too. In the past, she would sleep in her mother's room. After marrying York—

There were rarely any thunderstorms. But when there were, York had coincidentally always been home—likely because the bad weather meant his business engagements were canceled.

Ever since Hailey appeared in the picture, Gillian had endured every single terrifying storm all by herself.

But to her complete surprise.

For the first time ever, York hung up on Hailey right in front of her.

-

Thunder boomed outside all night.

Yet, inexplicably, Gillian slept wonderfully.

By the time she woke up the next morning, the rain had stopped, and the air was filled with a fresh, crisp scent. York was already gone.

However, a warm breakfast was waiting for her in the RV.

As she brought her food over to the table, she noticed a laptop had been left open.
