Finn's eyes trembled violently.
Sienna's question felt like a brutal knife carving out his heart.
He couldn't use the excuse he had used four years ago.
Chloe is pregnant. I have to take responsibility.
Looking back, even he felt like an absolute monster for saying those words.
He gripped her hand, his thumb naturally resting over the scar on her wrist.
The scar burned against his skin, searing him like a branding iron.
"Sienna, I never fell in love with anyone else. I never betrayed you. Never."
He finally said it.
His voice was destroyed, his eyes stinging with unshed tears.
He finally had the chance to speak the truth.
Just then, Finn's phone rang.
It was sitting in the center console between them.
The screen lit up.
The name Chloe Cross was loud and piercing.
Sienna glanced at it, the light instantly dying in her eyes.
She yanked her hand back, viciously scrubbed away her tears, and her voice dropped to absolute zero.
"Answer it. Your family is looking for you."
The word family drove an ice pick straight through Finn's chest.
"I'm not answering it. Sienna, I'm not finished talking."
"You might not be finished, but I'm done listening. This means nothing."
The fire in Sienna's heart was brutally extinguished.
Rationality clawed its way back to the surface.
Her breakdown, her tears, the words she had spoken—it was all pointless.
Finn's chest heaved.
"Why do you always do this? Is this fair to me?"
Sienna turned to look at him, her gaze as dead and calm as a frozen lake.
"You broke up with me four years ago. You unilaterally destroyed everything. You have zero credibility with me. Why should I give you fairness? You did this to yourself."
The phone screen was still glowing.
Chloe called again and again.
Infuriated, Finn hit answer and slammed it onto speakerphone.
