Sienna hesitated for a moment.
"I guess so."
Lily leaned back in her chair, studying her closely.
"I heard Silas Hayes is a bit older. Do you actually like him? I know he's incredibly powerful, but you shouldn't force yourself into anything."
Sienna offered a bitter smile.
"Don't worry, I'm not."
Lily stared at her for two long seconds.
"But you still didn't say whether you actually like him."
Sienna looked down, needlessly rearranging the files on her desk.
"Does it matter if I like him? I don't even know what 'liking' someone means anymore. Not everyone retains the capacity to love. Finding someone suitable is what actually matters."
Hearing Sienna say those words broke Lily's heart.
She couldn't reconcile this emotionally detached woman claiming she had 'lost the capacity to love' with the vibrant, passionate Sienna from college.
Lily would never forget the night Sienna had called her, practically screaming with joy.
She had happily confessed that she was head over heels for a senior from the neighboring aviation academy.
His name was Finn Fletcher. She had said it was love at first sight, and that she was going to make him hers.

The Azure Lounge boasted the best panoramic view in the city.
The sprawling nightscape of Metropolis stretched out below them, a sea of glittering lights and flowing traffic.
Silas sat across from her. He was dressed unusually casually in an off-white sport coat over a crisp white shirt.
The relaxed attire took years off his appearance.
Sitting across from Sienna, they looked like peers.
He personally poured her a glass of water.
"I apologize again for what happened today. If something upsets you, you need to tell me so we can handle it together." He set the teapot down, his demeanor notably warmer than usual.
Sienna picked up the glass and took a sip.
"You've already apologized."
"I have, but I can see you are still unsettled," Silas observed.
Sienna put the glass down and offered a perfectly measured, polite smile.
"I'm not that petty."
"I assume you saw Finn Fletcher's public statement," Silas remarked, his tone as casual as if he were discussing the weather.
Sienna's grip on her chopsticks tightened for a fraction of a second.
"I did."
