"It's getting late. I should head back."
Sienna suddenly stood up.
She moved so quickly that a faint breeze stirred, brushing against Finn's fingers where they hung by his side.
He glanced down at his hand, the sensation of that fleeting touch lingering against his skin.
"Alright, I'll walk you back. You have your exam tomorrow, so you really should get some rest."
He stood up as well, his voice a little dry as he gave himself an excuse to stay near her.
The two of them walked toward the park exit, one in front of the other.
Finn escorted her all the way to the back entrance of Serenity Books.
As they were about to say goodbye, Sienna slowed her pace, turning her head to look at him.
"Finn."
He stopped in his tracks.
"About tonight..." She paused. "Let's talk about it after we both finish what we need to do."
When those words landed between them, Finn completely froze.
He was a man who rarely let his emotions show on his face; his hands were always steady, even when flying a plane through the most violent turbulence.
But right now, he found he couldn't control the corners of his mouth. The smile slowly widened, making him look almost foolish.
He even felt a prickling heat behind his eyes, as if a tidal wave of emotion had surged from his chest straight to his gaze.
He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing as he forced the overwhelming sentiment down. When he finally spoke, his voice was beautifully raspy.
"Okay."
He understood her perfectly.
After waiting in the dark for so long, he was finally seeing a sliver of light.
Sienna caught that unrestrained gleam in his eyes, and her own throat tightened. She whispered softly.
"Go on home. You have a big meeting tomorrow."
He nodded.
