Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 681

“Just a sandwich is fine. Thanks, Donna,” Amelia said.

“No problem. And about Mr. Packman—” Donna started, but before she could finish, Ryan’s tall figure appeared in the doorway.

“I’ve got a few things to handle, so I won’t be home for dinner,” Ryan said as he glanced over at Timmy. “Timmy, we’ll play chess again soon, okay?”

“See you, Uncle Ryan,” Timmy called out.

Ryan leaned in and pressed a kiss to Amelia’s forehead. “I’m heading out.”

Amelia pressed her lips together, hesitating. There was so much she wanted to say. “Ryan—”

He paused and turned, waiting for her to speak.

She looked at him—so handsome, but with that persistent paleness to his skin—and in the end, she swallowed her words. “Wait a second.” Then she hurried upstairs. When she came back down, she had a scarf in her hand.

Soft gray cashmere. It felt like a cloud between her fingers.

She wrapped it carefully around his neck. “It’s supposed to snow today. It’s cold out. Don’t catch a cold, okay?”

Ryan ducked his head so she could tie the scarf snugly.

“I’m off,” he said softly.

He started to lift his hand, wanting to touch her cheek, but stopped himself when he realized how cold his fingers were. Instead, he let his hand drop and turned to go.

Outside, Francisco was already waiting by the car. Ryan climbed in and, through the one-way glass, watched as Amelia stepped outside to see him off. She couldn’t see him watching her—her reflection was all that showed.

He stared for a long moment before finally saying, “Drive.”

He reached up and touched the scarf she’d just wrapped around him. It was so warm.

Amelia stood there watching his car disappear down the street. For some reason, her chest felt tight and uneasy, like something bad was about to happen.

“Ma’am,” Donna said gently, hurrying over. “Don’t stand out here in the cold. Mr. Packman will be back before you know it.”

Amelia got out with Timmy, and their eyes met. For the kids’ sake, she kept it civil, just giving Clive a brief nod.

Clive seemed a little surprised by her gesture, but before he could say anything, Amelia had already looked away.

His face fell, but Timmy stepped up. “Dad, did you send anyone to look for Aunt Caroline? I found her flight info and sent it to your email.”

“My team is already on it, Timmy. We’ve sent people to look for her. Don’t worry,” Clive reassured him. “She’ll be home safe soon.”

Hearing that, Timmy finally relaxed a little.

“Timmy, go in with your sister. Class is about to start,” Amelia said, her voice gentle.

Timmy grabbed Penny’s hand, and together they disappeared through the school gates.

Amelia was about to get back in her car when Clive called out behind her.

“Amelia…”
